We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrianne Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrianne, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always found creating and crafting very grounding and fulfilling. I love being able to come up with something in my mind and making it a reality. During the COVID-19 quarantine I knew I needed something to occupy my mind and challenge me through extended periods of time. I started with watercolor tutorials and fell in love with the learning and the process. I then branched out by signing up for a stained glass making course. I fell in love immediately. Every step of the process was a challenge but extremely grounding. As my skills grew, my confidence grew, and the challenge of new, unique designs excited me. I couldn’t help but share my creations with friends and family over social media. After creating just my second piece I was contacted by someone that wanted to buy my piece. I knew that this was a start to a fulfilling and fruitful career.

I find the greatest joy in creating something with true meaning for the recipient. Hearing that my piece is a gift for someone that will remind the recipient of a passed loved one, for example, brings me great joy. One of my favorite causes to support is LGTBQ+ awareness and alliance. I find pride knowing that my art pieces are a visual representation of the values and memories that my clients hold close to their hearts. I got to where I am professionally by just breaking past the fear of starting my own business and the unknowns of the minutiae such as shipping glass pieces across country, setting up a website, etc. It is terrifying to put your work out there not knowing how it will be received by others. I think we all inherently have a fear of “not being good enough”, so letting down those walls and just going for it was probably the most challenging part. Luckily, I have the most supportive family and friends that encouraged me and helped to lessen that fear. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that you have to let your guard down and try not to be overly critical of your own work. It’s easy to give into the fear that your piece is not perfect, but you’ll hold yourself back if you don’t put your work out there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places around the city is Olde Town Arvada. The entire area is full of small businesses run by owners with a true passion for their work. It is a place where you can sit down on the patio of Silver Vines Winery with friends while listening to local musicians play in the evenings over the weekend. Not into wine? The Arvada Tavern has an amazing selection of cocktails and you can sit at the bar and watch the bartenders create smokey fine beverages with the entertainment of fire right in front of your eyes. Or walk through the phone booth to the upstairs speakeasy scene and listen to more local music of varying genres. The food scene is flourishing and abundant from whisky and burgers at School House or amazing pizza and appetizers at Home Grown Tap and Dough. Not to mention the stores with local crafts, unique gifts, gems and jewelry, or spices for your kitchen. One can easily spend the entire day in Olde Town and never get bored while supporting small business owners.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to my extremely supportive friends and family. So many people in my life have helped to accelerate my business by encouraging me with kind words and compliments on my work, trusting me to take their vision and create a tangible piece of art for them, and sharing with their family and friends. Their words of encouragement simply letting me know that they believe I can make a career of sharing my love and art with others was enough to boost my confidence and step into the world of small business ownership.
