We had the good fortune of connecting with Colleen Osborne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Colleen, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’m not sure I decided to pursue an artistic or creative career, and yet here I am working in a few different ways creating content and a healing space for people.

My choice was more about staying in a path that I pretty clearly knew what it would offer me or striking out and trying something new and different that allowed me a broader range of expression of my gifts. I think that’s what led me to where I am – choosing work that allowed me to express myself more multidimensionally, more fully.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I work in the personal growth space, as a coach, leadership development facilitator and teacher of a mindful movement practice called Qi Gong. I love helping people create the life and/or career of their dreams, which is aligned with their values and even their soul’s purpose.

In my own journey, I’ve gone from having espoused values to living my values and my soul’s purpose; it’s been a pretty profound shift. It’s involved facing fears, rewriting limiting beliefs, learning to be skillful with my emotions, shedding of layers of protection, and working with my physical body to anchor the mental and emotional shifts I’m making.

Often, in order to change our way of being in the world, we need to have the physical body play an active role in the transformation. We can’t just think ourselves into a new way of being; we have to embody it. That’s where the Qi Gong and other somatic work comes in.

Doing this personal work hasn’t been easy and then adding starting a business on top of that has been really challenging. Things like limiting beliefs don’t necessarily show themselves easily. It can take a crucible moment like starting a business to bring them forward. Then the question is, “Are you willing to face what is standing in the way of your success?”

In addition to supporting individuals who want to “Level Up” their lives, I also see my work as impacting the evolution of the human species. The next phase of human evolution, as I see it, is to transcend the boundaries that keep us seeing the world in terms of “us” and “them.”

I truly believe we can build a world where there is enough for all and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. I want my work to inspire people and help them move toward living their soul’s purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Denver proper, we would start with one of my favorite walks, from the Hi-Lo neighborhood (think Little Man Ice Cream’s iconic milk can building), across the pedestrian bridge over I-25, and down into Lodo, ending up at Union Station. I love the atmosphere of the Cooper Lounge in Union Station and would spend a night or two at the Crawford to soak up Denver’s best downtown vibes. We might hit the Denver Art Museum if there was a good special exhibit there.

Golden is another wonderful metro area destination. I’d spend time with my friend walking Golden’s main street, visiting the shops, and hanging out by the river. Then, I’d take them on a drive up Clear Creek Canyon, stopping for some beautiful nature vibes and a hike along the way.

We’d spend a few days and nights around Idaho Springs, soaking at Indian Hot Springs and enjoying the hippie haven of downtown Idaho Springs. I love Clear Creek Wellness Company, which offers holistic health care. We might partake of some of their events, like a Sound Bath, Forest Bathing, or acupuncture or massage. We’d hunt for treasures, including beautiful rock and crystal specimens, in the many shops of downtown. I keep going back to Clear Creek Cidery there, so I’d likely take my friend there, as well as the Main Street Cafe and Mountain Prime.

Back around the Denver area, I’d take my friend on a tour of my favorite sustainable shopping spots, including JoyFill, a refill store in the Highlands/Berkeley neighborhood. We’d also hang out at Nude Foods Market Denver, my absolute favorite grocery store ever. Nude Foods seeks to end single use packaging in food. I buy everything from frozen meat, fruit, olives, coffee, and even chocolate in glass jars at Nude Foods. I’d give them the tour and we’d do some shopping, bringing some of my favorite foods home to consume and then return the jars to the shop. It just feels good to shop sustainably!

I might even ride the train out to DIA with my friend and bid them farewell at DIA. They would leave loving Denver as much as I do!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my dad, Bill Gillespie. He’s been my hero and role model my whole life.

When I was very young, my mom suffered from serious depression, and, when I was 18 months old, she took her own life, My dad saw her through that, held himself together and made sure my brother and me were provided for. Throughout my life, he has modeled the way and been supportive of my choices, even if they weren’t what he would have done. Thank you, dad. I wouldn’t be here right now without you and I’m so glad we get to spend so much quality time together!

I also want to think a mentor who has come into my life just when I needed her, Tiffany Bucknam. Tiffany has helped me beyond words as I’ve navigated challenges with “doing the internal work” that help make a business successful. Thanks Tiffany! I’m so fortunate to have found you!
