Meet Jameson Gregson | Music Producer & DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jameson Gregson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jameson, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I had a largely musical background growing up. My mom and stepdad were both in the church choir, as well as hosted many of their vocally talented friends at their home for weekend dinners. Afterward they would pass the guitar around and sing tons of folk songs: James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Beatles, etc.. I feel like that passion passed on to me through drumming. I practiced on my drum set consistently for about 5-6 years; taking some lessons and music theory courses in high school, then slowly moving to teaching myself how to play the piano. By the time I was about 15 or 16 I realized all of the time I had spent listening to sonic structures, loving and analyzing music couldn’t go to waste.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Initially, I was making music out of old samples and adding my own flare to it. Taking something familiar and putting my own stamp on it, while honoring the original as much as I can without trying to just make it my own. That progressed into wanting to make my own music from scratch. This took quite a bit of time to come naturally. The further along I’ve gotten in my progression as an artist, the more fluid and natural I’ve come to find the process has become.
Making a song that is interesting to others and means something to you doesn’t always work. Which is part of something that I’m still trying to get over to this day. Not only are we all our own worst critics, but there’s a big difference between making music for fun versus making music that you want to take you places. I haven’t struck sonic gold by any means, but I’m proud of my sound and have gotten some great feedback from friends & strangers alike so that’s good enough for me (for now).
My debut album ‘Jargon’ is probably what I’m most proud of at this point. It was the first (larger) collection of cohesive noise I’ve put together that made me feel accomplished – like I did almost exactly what I wanted with that project. My excitement lies with my next album which will be coming (hopefully) by mid to late 2025.
The thought of putting my music out to the world and getting myself on a stage to perform it definitely held me back for a while. There was a little bit of stage fright and not feeling like it would amount to anything that was blocking my potential, but persistence and the support of my friends and loved ones has really helped me open my mind to a new way of looking at my craft.
What sets me apart (aside from wearing a suit and tie to most of my gigs) is that I still have the mentality of my music; my way. I don’t want to chase anything that 6,000 other producers & Dj’s in the metro area are, I want to create for me. If it ends up taking me somewhere…great! If not, my path won’t change.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they hadn’t been here before I’d take them on the obligatory red rocks day time trip, then hopefully to a show there at some point in their time here. As far as food & drink goes, uchi is high up on my list (it was the restaurant that converted me to enjoying seafood). I’d take them to pon pon, arguably one of the best dives in Denver. I’d say anything along the larimer strip is killer emphasis on beacon & mockingbird, as well as time spent in the mountains is fairly mandatory (barring it’s not freezing). I’m sure I used to have a much longer list but I don’t get out much these days haha.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s not so much of a group per se, but my tightest knit group of friends who have been making moves in a similar fashion, and I believe they all deserve a shoutout. Not sure if that’s really what you’re looking for haha, but Fred Fancy (producer/dj), Isela Boehringer (artist management), Carlos Acuña (photographer), and Javier Lozano (Javi is the one I believe mentioned my name to you all). Maybe one day we’ll some up with a group or collective name to make this easier.
