We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Achée and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joe, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I think, for me, my thought process was much like everyone else’s in that I couldn’t see myself working for someone else my entire life. I could waste countless hours making someone else rich while I continued to struggle. So, I decided the best way to get things going was to form my LLC. I figured, if it was something real, it would be something I would push myself at even more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Most of my photography background has been in portraits, but over the past few years I have branched out into wildlife photography as well as racing photography. I’ve always been heavily into photography and videography (I wanted to be a movie director), but I really got going with portraits because I wanted my own reference so I could actually practice drawing and painting from the photos that I took. The biggest challenge for me was just finding the niche I wanted to build my business around, mostly because I am sponge and I love absorbing everything about all the niches and topics and I want to dip my toe into everything about it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Denver Museum of Nature and Science as well as the Denver Zoo are always fun (and right next to each other). Most of the year we got hockey going on in this state, so maybe an Avalanche, Eagles, or Pioneers game. When the weather is nice, we are up and out adventuring at the Sand Dunes, or riding the cog railway up Pike’s Peak, visiting the Garden of Gods. Maybe explore a ghost town or two.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to all the people in my first year or two in doing photography for their patience doing those early days as I learned posing and lighting and everything else. They were the ones that really gave me the chance to explore and grow.
