We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay Koloff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shay, how does your business help the community?
Zenith Moon Co is our product company that umbrellas our herbal workshop studio called Potted Zen. This space is the first of its kind, offering classes, workshops, and complete herbal hands on sessions such as tea blending, infused oils, body scrubs and more! Our studio offers herbal empowerment and education to those who seek holistic health care and wellness alternatives! Our business is A
affiliated with Holistic Professionals of Color, a nationwide nonprofit. We are seeking to offer resources to our community such as permacultural garden planning & design, fresh food co-op, and free workshops where we not only educate but we give back!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my story. It is a tale of sacrifice and resilience. Many do not know what I have been through in the last few years and how my business almost did not survive. I went through a divorce in the middle of the biggest height in my entrepreneurial career. I had to choose my business or keeping peace in my family situation which is never easy. I signed over The Broom Circle because I started it with my husband at the time. It was not easy to go through divorce alone, or to start over and leave such a beautiful foundation built in those short 3 years. As time when on, I had to overcome the challenges of being faced with change, pain, and uncertainty. Just as I was about to give up a friend of mine offered me a space to continue business and thus Potted Zen Studio was born out of a difficult ending. The lessons I learned along the way was to never doubt your impact on others. You can go through tough times but there are those out there who support you and want to see you thrive!
Within the three month of opening my new location, I was nominated for 3 business awards with the African Chamber of Commerce and have been nominated for 3 Tanzania Awards at the Holistic Professionals of Color National Conference this year as well!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So in my opinion you can find gems all over this city! There are many beautiful places to hike like Helen Hunt Falls or Garden of the Gods. The best food places I frequent are Sabrina’s Soul Food, Felipe 109, and Luchals. The great shopping areas like Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City and Downtown have amazing shops and restaurants! There’s so much to do and see.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Holistic Professionals of Color has been instrumental in aiding in our journey to create opportunities to educate on holistic wellness. The month of January we partnered with Pikes Pike Post Acute to offer a holistic wellness informational for the residents. As the first chapter president of our Colorado Springs chapter, I am grateful to them for the platform with their nonprofit and being able to connect with the community and bring awareness to Holistic Professionals of Color and what we do!
