We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Sapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always loved the outdoors, with hunting and fishing being my true passions. Like many, for years I’ve watched outdoor cable tv shows and now internet shows. While I enjoy them greatly, I felt that a lot of these shows lack a blueprint for the common outdoorsman. Most people that have passion for these outdoor activities do not have the time or resources to have the same experiences you would normally see on any of these programs. I decided to form Unguided to show people like me my experiences and techniques I’ve learned over the years and where I have had success in this space. I decided to buy some cameras, teach myself how to edit video, and put content out there that anyone can watch and apply to their own adventures and outdoor excursions. Call it a guide for the “common” outdoorsman. Unfortunately, many in this space have a tendency to tear each other down and criticize each other on how they do things in the outdoors. My goal is to create a platform where people can share their experiences and learn from each other, all while ethically maintaining and sustaining these great resources that are available to each and every one of us.

I have also created Ridin’ Rogue Charters with my business partner Capt. Matthew Hersey, a GWOT veteran and current member of the US Army. Our goal is very much the same as with our online content, and to show guests an exceptional time down in the Lowcountry and show why we love this area so much and what is so special about it. If you are visiting our area, give us a call! We’d love to show you why!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It certainly has not been easy to get where I am today, nor will it get any easier to get where I am striving to go. My full time career has been a big part of this opportunity I have had to try my hand at these other fields. I am a 3rd generation member of a family outdoor advertising firm in Statesboro, GA – Sapp Outdoor Advertising, Inc. I have spent my entire professional career in small business, and it has laid the foundation for me to venture into other industries. I have to thank my father, Neal Sapp, who has encouraged me to try new things but give everything you do your best effort. When you are self employed, no one is coming to bail you out other than yourself. You assume all of the risk and more times than not you put yourself on the line and take shot after shot and it seems as if nothing will go your way. You just keep moving forward and making your process better at every opportunity and take every setback as a learning experience. There is nothing sweeter than finding success after long periods of struggle, and for this reason taking risks and going out on your own is the path for me. Thanks for the lessons, Dad.

What I would want the world to know about my brand is that myself and the group of friends who are featured in my content are just like you. None of us were born with a silver spoon in our mouths and our parents and their parents fought and struggled to give us the opportunities to chase our passions and try and create something we can pass on to our future generations. My brand is the brand of the common outdoorsman. The outdoorsman whose main hope is to pass on his or her experiences to their kids, teaching them how to live from from the land and how to utilize the greatest resource we have, our earth. In a world where convenience is most people’s goal, I encourage everyone that’ll listen to get out there and struggle, because the reward is unmatched.

Our charter brand is pretty simple. We want to connect guests with wild places and unforgettable experiences in the Lowcountry and show them why our little corner of the world is so special.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our base of operations is in Savannah, Georgia, one of the oldest cities in the United States. It full of historic locations as well as many fine dining options. I would take visitors for a morning of fishing offshore, and then come back in and make port at Daufuskie Island, SC. It is just across the shipping channel from Savannah and is only accessible by boat. Daufuskie has a rich history dating back to the 16th century, and after a fresh caught lunch and a couple of famous “Scrap Iron” cocktails, we would head out on the golf cart to explore the island and really experience what makes the Lowcountry so special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I have to give thanks to my wife and my father, without whose support I could not take the time to go and create the content that I have on my channel or operate a full offshore charter and private boat tour business in Savannah.

Secondly, I have to give my business partner, Capt. Matthew Hersey, a shoutout. Matt is a GWOT veteran and helps me tremendously when it comes to creating new content and operating our charter business.

Thirdly, I can’t leave out Capt. Doug Collins, who is also a GWOT veteran and has truly taught me everything I know about offshore fishing.
