Taking Risk is essential, but how much, when and why? Taking risks effectively is as much of an art as it is a science and we’ve asked some of the brightest folks in the community to tell us about how they think about risk taking.

Everyone wants to sound like a badass and say something like “…any risks we face are a minor obstacle on the path to greatness. Just move past them and you can obtain anything you set your mind to.” I mean, I’d love to believe that’s the truth but we focus so much on what people have, and not what it took to get there. In addition to owning my own health and wellness business, I am also an educator in Denver Public Schools. In both endeavors, risk-taking is bubbling up as a prominent theme right now. I am reading Hidden Potential by Adam Grant and have this quote posted in my classroom and in my home office. “Becoming a creature of discomfort can unlock hidden potential in many different types of learning. Summoning the nerve to face discomfort is a character skill—an especially important form of determination.  Read More>>

Taking risks is essential. Sometimes playing it safe works but risk is what truely defines who you are. 8 years ago I started taking them. First with moving out here, then buying this shop. Then by stepping out of my comfort zone and doing fashion shows, moving the shop back downtown, and on and on… it’s been rewarding to say the least. Read More>>

For me, risk is the fuel that propels us from our current reality toward the life we envision for ourselves. The late Jim Rohn’s concept of “the timid approach to life” resonated deeply with me. He admitted to being too cautious as a young adult until he came to the realization that “it’s all risky”. He then elaborates saying “life is so risky, you won’t get out of it alive”. That’s all I needed to hear to completely shift my perspective on risk.  Read More>>

I think risk is exciting, it ignites something inside of you that drives you to succeed. I used to be more risk adverse until I learned that without risk, you might never level up the way you want to. Sometimes you have to take the plunge, take a leap, and see where you land. Failures will happen, and failure is just as important for growth as success. Read More>>

In my journey as a teacher, business owner and manager taking risks has been a catalyst for growth. Choosing to explore an unconventional path has expanded my understanding of business and enriched my offerings. By trusting my intuition and often stepping into the unknown, I’ve created a path for myself that is authentic to my lifestyle and given me a unique skillset to bring to my business as well as my job as a studio manager. Taking risks has not just shaped my career – it has defined it. Read More>>

I think about risk being more so as having faith.
Hebrews 11:1 says “ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Before starting my Hair braiding business called Hair We Go AC, I was working in a corporate position for almost 10 years. Clientele was steadily increasing and my desire to stay at the job was decreasing. I was four months shy of my 10 year anniversary when I took a leap of faith and trusted what God told me. He said, He will take care of me.  Read More>>

Risk has been the cornerstone of every major decision I’ve made. especially when the path was unclear or entirely unpaved.

At the end of 2023, I took a leap of faith and moved to Brighton, Colorado. I had been told I’d have the opportunity to test with one of the larger modeling agencies there. That promise was the reason we left Wyoming – the place where beauty and fashion photography felt like a ghost town sucking my soul dry. I needed more. I needed connection, collaboration, creation.  Read More>>

I credit my views on failure and risk to my younger self’s dream of becoming a professional snowboarder. I didn’t quite get there – but got close enough to learn what it really takes. I’d hike one feature in the park for hours, trying the same trick hundreds of times, falling, adjusting, and building muscle memory. Each attempt was data. I learned to A/B test approaches, refine my strategy, and push through fear – which got a little smaller every time I stepped up. Read More>>

I think of a risk as, taking a step forward without knowing anything. For me I did that at 15 starting photography with an old little Sony camera my mom had. Eventually that led to me taking a step to get a better camera, and developed a good feel photography professionally. During this whole process i had a few of my old friends tell me its not going to work out, your pictures suck no one will hire you and well, lets just say i proved them wrong. Jumped and landed while they are still at the same place 2 years ago. Read More>>
