We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Kalicki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I became a mom for the first time, I thought that once the baby arrived, things would just fall into place — that I’d figure it out as I went. I had prepared for pregnancy and birth, but nothing prepared me for the changes that came after birth — not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. I was surprised by how much I didn’t know or expect about the postpartum experience.

I poured all of my time, energy, and love into taking care of my daughter… but somewhere along the way, I lost sight of myself. I didn’t recognize the woman in the mirror — not in how I looked, and not in how I felt. At 9 months postpartum, I had a wake-up moment: in order to keep showing up for my daughter, I needed to start showing up for me.

That moment sparked something deeper. I realized that if I had felt this lost, others probably had too — and that too many mothers were going through postpartum silently, without the support they truly needed.

So I started my own business to change that.
Through coaching and community, I help moms rediscover themselves after birth — building confidence, nurturing their well-being, and reconnecting with who they are beyond motherhood. Because when mothers are cared for, supported, and empowered, everyone thrives.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mother Hen Coaching was born out of my own postpartum experience — the raw, unfiltered reality of becoming a mom and realizing how little support existed for me as a mother, beyond the six-week mark. I thought once the baby arrived, I’d just figure it out. But what I didn’t expect were the identity shifts, the body image struggles, the loneliness, and the quiet grief of letting go of who I used to be.

At nine months postpartum with my first daughter, I hit a turning point. I realized that I couldn’t keep pouring from an empty cup — and that taking care of me wasn’t selfish, it was necessary. That’s when I started doing the deep work: reconnecting with myself, my body, and my confidence. And I knew other moms needed the space and support to do the same.
So I created Mother Hen Coaching to support moms in postpartum and beyond — not just to survive motherhood, but to thrive in it.

What I’m most proud of is that I get to work one-on-one with mothers across the U.S. — virtually, but with real connection — to help them feel truly seen and heard. Whether it’s during naptime, late at night, or between meetings, I meet moms where they are (physically and emotionally), holding space for their experiences and guiding them toward self-trust, confidence, and wellness. It’s not just about coaching — it’s about reminding each mother that she matters, too.

What sets my business apart is the focus on the mother — her identity, her self-love, her well-being — not just her to-do list or bounce-back plan. I meet moms right where they are and help them rebuild confidence, trust their intuition, and make time for themselves without guilt.

Was it easy? Not at all. Building a business while raising two little ones has stretched me in ways I never imagined. There have been moments of doubt, overwhelm, and imposter syndrome. But what’s kept me going is this truth: Mothers deserve more. More care. More connection. More room to be human. And I’m proud to offer that.

Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way?
-You don’t have to do it all to do it well.
-Community and collaboration matter more than competition.
-Vulnerability is a superpower — especially in motherhood and in business.

What I want the world to know is this: Postpartum is not a deadline — it’s a lifelong transformation. And you don’t have to walk through it alone. Whether you’re three months or three years in, you still matter. Your story still matters. And there is space for you in the motherhood journey.
That’s what Mother Hen Coaching is all about.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1:
Start with a local stroll with the kids South Platte trail, then head to Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton for craft beer, tasty food, and live music. Their outdoor patio is amazing and the kids love to run around the turf.

Day 2:
Day trip to Boulder — stroll Pearl Street, enjoy fresh, healthy eats (think farm to table foods), and take a quick hike near the Flatirons.

Day 3:
Hit the mountains for a longer hike and camp overnight under the stars. Campfire chats and mountain air = the best combo. My favorite is dispersed camping at Lost Creek.

Day 4:
Unwind with dinner at Logan Street, paired with wine from Carboy Winery. Cozy, flavorful, and one of my favorite date-night spots.

Days 5–7:
Mix of relaxing and exploring — maybe paddleboarding at Chatfield Reservoir, checking out a local café- Atlas Coffee is a local favorite, or catching a mountain sunset with coffee in hand.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely — there are so many people and influences who have helped shape where I am today, but if I had to choose one shoutout, I’d dedicate it to the community of mothers who’ve trusted me with their stories.

Every mom I’ve worked with, spoken to, or connected with — whether in coaching sessions, online, or in mom groups — has reminded me why I do this work. Their honesty, vulnerability, and strength have inspired me to show up fully, and their stories have shaped the heart behind Mother Hen Coaching.

I also want to shout out my partner, who has been my steady ground through the highs and lows of motherhood and entrepreneurship. Her support — whether it’s holding our babies so I can hold space for others, encouraging me to pursue this work, or simply reminding me to rest — has been a vital part of my ability to grow and serve other moms.

And of course, my daughters — the reason, the inspiration, and the “why” behind everything I do. Becoming their mom cracked me open in the best way and pushed me to grow into the woman I am today.

Lastly, a special mention to the book “The Fourth Trimester” by Kimberly Ann Johnson — it helped me name so many of the things I was feeling in those early postpartum days and planted the seed that postpartum care could (and should) look different.
