Meet John Varvir | 2D Animator and Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Varvir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Pursuing a 2D animation career was a dream of mine since i was a kid. Constantly watching cartoons and drawing the characters on the tv was a natural habit that not only brought me a lot of happiness but others around me. And it felt even better when my friends and family would request my work because i knew that they weren’t just asking anybody to do it. So this co-enjoyment kept me going and filled my days with just doodling with anything on everything. Then one day someone told me that i could be an animator, and i had no idea what that was at the time. Going on to tell me that i could bring my illustrations to life and have them move, speak, become real. That really captured my little imagination and i’ve been running off it ever since. Animating not only my thoughts but help others do the same or at the least amuse them with the same joy i feel when doing it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The biggest lesson i’ve learned in this pursuit is to just keep learning and taking in everything you can. I constantly enjoy seeing different styles out there and pushing myself to try and find my own voice within it. Not to take or steal from others but to evolve and grow from. I know my limitations and won’t be able to achieve everything i see but gladly take on the challenge to keep doing something different and learn another perspective or tactic to help what i do know. So not limiting myself and not trying to be everything but focusing on what i can artistically put out and feel proud of it is what separates my work from others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado in general has still been one of my favorite places to stay/visit/explore in. I was born and raised there but have lived in may places and nothing ever compares to getting to see the Rocky Mountains everyday. That said, I would give a tour of Colorado going from certain spots in Denver, Boulder, Idaho Springs and at the very least stopping in and getting a Mountain Man Pizza from Beau Jo’s!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family deserve all the praise for where i am. They’ve supported me through every avenue of not only my life but the success in my art. Without them this would have just evolved into a weekend hobby; and while that’s not a bad thing, i’m so much happier getting to explore this world even further.
