We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success to me means ‘doing the best you can with what you have’. We all have very different access to resources, support and community. I do not believe we all have the same 24 hours in a day. In our capitalist and individualistic society, we are taught and shown a specific version of what success looks like, & for most of us, its not true, it’s not attainable. I rather focus on the feeling of success. Knowing what accomplishment and pride feel like. When you are doing the best you can with what you have and are making it work. When you are meeting your own goals and fueling yourself in a way that feels good and healthy and safe; a type of living that fills you up and honors who you are and the kind of life that you want to live, that is success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a virtual only, one woman show, private therapy practice. I started Be Well Counseling in May of 2023 and haven’t looked back. It’s not uncommon for therapists’ to eventually venture out on their own but that doesn’t make it any less scary or any less of a risk. I worked in a wonderful group practice out of Houston, Texas that guided me, supported me and encouraged me to follow my heart. Leaving an incredibly close knit team to become a solo practitioner was not an easy choice and one I thought about well before I pursued it. I moved to Colorado not knowing any other therapists or anyone in the helping profession. I launched into networking as fast as possible to begin growing a community I knew would be vital for my success. I now run a Therapist Networking Group, am involved in a Therapist book club, been apart of many collaborations with local wellness folks and have hosted therapeutic events as well as continuing to plan events for 2026. My network of therapists have made all that possible for me.
I am just a girl from smalltown Kentucky. Staying curious, being a life long learner, and trusting myself time and time again is what has gotten me to where I am. Remembering that as much as individualism is pushed in our society, we need each other. I’ve learned to not be afraid of asking for help and leaning on my people whenever I feel stuck, lonely or uncertain. Your dreams are not out of reach if you can be vulnerable and seek support when you need to. We aren’t designed to do life alone, so don’t.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being in Denver, there is no shortage of outside things to do. When people come to visit me, they know they are signing up for a trip of incredible, breathtaking views and experiences. From the drive up to Lookout Mountain, to the hike of Devil’s Head Lookout Fire Tower. I frequently visit Red Rocks as the hikes and views are ones that ask you to think about life & I like to stay curious. Our day started with fresh coffee and pastries from Bardo Coffee House. A patio afternoon at Illegal Pete’s complete with Margs & Tacos, or Taco Tuesday on the rooftop of Irish Rover overlooking Broadway. Broadway is a great place all around, for shopping entertainment and good vibes. I may also encourage coffee at Sati Coffee, a walk around Sloans lake and a drink afterwards at Joyride. You can’t beat the music scene here. Catching a concert at Red Rocks or Mission Ballroom is a must. Even if you aren’t a sports fan, the Mile High Stadium is a great experience and a beautiful addition to the city. You’ll catch me there for concerts or when the KC Chiefs come to town. I love country music, so an evening or two at The Grizzly Rose or The Stampede to dance the night away is always on the itinerary. All the Viewhouse locations are also clutch. Great food and of course, great views of the mountains.
Living in the Denver mountain scape is an awesome experience. No matter what’s on the agenda, we are in for landscape views the entire way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This Shoutout is dedicated to all my incredibly talented and supportive colleagues. Some I’ve known for over a decade. Being a therapist is not for the faint of heart and community is necessary in order to stay grounded and do this work day in and day out. From KY, TN, SC, TX, CA and CO, I know the best of the best & it’s a breath of fresh air knowing they have my back.
I’d also like to acknowledge my graduate program at Western Kentucky University. It was incredibly well designed and prepared me for this work more than I thought it could. I am forever thankful to my professors, mentors and supervisors at both Lindsey Wilson University and WKU.
