Meet Sean Oblizalo | Colorado Elopement Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Oblizalo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me happy is living a life that feels intentional, free, and rooted in presence.
Being outside is a huge part of that. The mountains, the quiet mornings, the places I’d be even if cameras didn’t exist. Those environments ground me. When I’m out there with couples, it doesn’t feel like work because it’s exactly how I’d choose to spend my time anyway. I get to share my favorite places with people on one of the most meaningful days of their lives, and that’s a privilege I don’t take lightly.
What really fuels me is knowing I didn’t build a life where I’m just another cog in the machine. I’m not chasing someone else’s definition of success or trading my time for a paycheck that leaves me disconnected. Success for me is autonomy, alignment, impact and having the freedom to design my days, to work with couples who value experience over tradition, and to create something that feels honest and human.
Money matters, of course, but it’s not the metric. Happiness comes from waking up excited, feeling present in my work, and knowing I’ve built a business that supports the life I want, not the other way around. That balance is what keeps me fulfilled and why Vows and Peaks feels less like a job and more like a way of life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is that Vows and Peaks is truly all-inclusive packages, and it always has been. For the last seven years, I’ve built elopement packages that bring together trusted vendors—hair and makeup artists, florists, officiants, video—people I’ve worked alongside long before elopements became popular or trendy. This wasn’t a reaction to a market shift; it was the foundation from day one. While much of the current elopement space is new, I’ve been in the mountains consistently, refining systems, relationships, and experiences through hundreds of real elopement days.
Professionally, I didn’t get here overnight and it wasn’t easy. This path was built through repetition, trial and error, and showing up even when the industry didn’t quite know what to do with elopements yet. I learned by making mistakes, carrying too much, doing too much, and slowly understanding what actually serves couples best. Weather challenges, permit changes, logistical curveballs, burnout—those experiences shaped the way I work now. Instead of pushing through chaos, I learned to design days that feel calm, intentional, and flexible.
I want the world to know that my brand isn’t about being loud, trendy, or everywhere at once. Vows and Peaks is built on consistency, integrity, and care. I don’t chase what’s popular—I refine what works. I’ve built a business that prioritizes experience over ego, depth over volume, and longevity over hype.
My story is simple: I stayed. I kept showing up. I listened to couples. I invested in relationships. And over time, that commitment turned into a body of work and a brand that feels grounded, trusted, and true to who I am.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d go full local-mode—because I just bought a house in Telluride, and this place deserves to be experienced the right way: slow mornings, big adventures, unreal food, and a little bit of dirt under your fingernails.
Day 1: Arrival + Ease Into It
We’d start mellow. Drop bags, take a deep breath, and walk straight into town. Coffee at The Coffee Bear (non-negotiable), then a casual wander down Colorado Ave so they can feel how unreal it is that this place is actually real. Dinner at 221 South Oak or There for something cozy but elevated. Early night—altitude is real.
Day 2: Telluride Classics
Morning coffee round two (yes), then hop on the free gondola up to Mountain Village—arguably the best commute in the world. Lunch at Gnar Taco because it’s iconic and hits every time. Afternoon exploring Bridal Veil Falls or an easy hike like Bear Creek. Sunset drinks somewhere with a view, then back to town for live music if it’s happening.
Day 3: Via Ferrata Day
This is a “core memory” day. We’d do the Via Ferrata, no question. It’s adventurous, approachable, and one of the most unique ways to experience the box canyon. Post-climb beers and burgers, sore legs, big smiles. That night is casual—pizza, wine, stories.
Day 4: Off-Roading the Passes
We’d rent a rig and head out early to Imogene or Ophir Pass. This is where Telluride really shows off. Alpine lakes, mining ruins, zero cell service, all the wow-factor. Pack snacks, stop often, take it slow. End the day with a soak or a relaxed dinner back in town.
Day 5: Ouray Day Trip
Drive to Ouray (the “Switzerland of America” for a reason). Walk the town, grab lunch, and definitely hit the Ouray Hot Springs. It’s the perfect reset day—low effort, high reward. Golden hour in the amphitheater is unreal.
Day 6: Silverton Adventure
Train ride if we’re feeling touristy (and honestly—it’s worth it), or drive if we want more freedom. Silverton has grit and charm. Explore old mining history, grab a beer, wander, don’t rush it. This day is all about contrast.
Day 7: Paddleboarding + Slow Goodbye
Back in Telluride, we’d paddleboard Trout Lake or another favorite alpine spot. Quiet morning, glassy water, mountains reflecting everywhere. Late brunch, last walk through town, one final Coffee Bear stop before hugs and “you should move here” conversations.
The Vibe
The best part of Telluride isn’t just the places—it’s the people who are drawn here. Dirtbag climbers, artists, chefs, mountain athletes, locals who value experience over ego. Everything feels intentional. Nothing feels rushed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mariah is the constant thread through all of it. She makes me feel genuinely loved and fully seen.
What I love most is that every adventure with her becomes my new favorite. She’s my partner in adventure, in growth, and in life and and she makes the whole journey feel fuller, lighter, and more true.
