Meet Shelly Anderson | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelly Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelly, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I believe the answer to this question would be 90% “passion”. If you are not passionate about a project or job anymore…you just won’t be successful down the road. Maybe not right away, but eventually the lack of passion will catch up to you and create some sort of burn out. If there is interest, passion, and dedication applied to any thing in life, it will live on. It may take awhile to get going, or to over come a hurdle, but it will press on because of your desire to do so.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been photographing weddings for about 13 years now. I’ve seen SO much change in my industry within that time frame. I’m proud of overcoming a lot of obstacles that have come my way. Whether it be personal obstacles, industry obstacles, or even economical obstacles. I’ve had to navigate learning SEO, adapting to AI, figuring out how to balance starting a family and keeping my career going, and even how to make it through Covid!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting the Denver area for a week, I’d make a family friendly trip (as we all have little children now!). We could walk up the Clear Creek trail in Golden, and stop at the Golden Mill for some food and drink after. I’d also take them out to Lake Dillon for a day trip and have the kids play on the beach and the marina! Maybe we’d hit the Georgetown Railway on the way home. For more local things, we’d go to the Highlands farmers market on a Sunday morning. We’d also maybe hit up Putt Shack in RiNo for a little kid fun as well as parent fun. Can’t forget the zoo!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ryan Varga, aka, my husband.
But he is more than that! Ryan is also in the photography world. He may not be in my particular industry, but he knows the language of photography. He actually spends more time deep diving into the technical world of photography, introducing me to new cameras, new shooting methods, and editing styles. It’s a fun way to stay creative within profession but with a totally different lens. (Pun intended).
