Meet Jax Lavender: Sparkle Queen & Permaculture Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jax Lavender and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jax, what do you attribute your success to?
For me, it’s all about the heart-to-heart connection with my clients. It is the soul of my business; encompassing the mission, the vision, and the values. My years as a registered nurse taught me how to connect with people quickly and authentically, and I have carefully honed these essential skills over the 3 years that I’ve been in business. Nothing pleases me more than connecting deeply in conversation with a client of any age, and knowing that they will leave me feeling seen, heard and celebrated! To me, this is much more than just hair sparkles. I have learned of cultures that believe that touching another’s hair is a spiritual act, and I carry this reverence with me when I am sparkling a client. I love knowing that my beloved clients feel my care, respect, and true enjoyment of my art form.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have worn many hats in my life, and I feel so grateful to have found my purpose in life as an entrepreneur. My first business is a pop-up hair sparkle service, Lucky Locks Vagabond, where I place beautiful strands of sparkly silk in all types of hair to create magical hair masterpieces. I do home appointments, pop-ups, and parties of all kinds. What sets me apart from others, is that I am ME! I was born to sparkle, and I LOVE coaxing out the inner sparkle in others. There is so much more to this art form than first appears, as any of my clients will tell you. There is no hiding from the world when you look into the mirror and see your sparkly reflection shining back at you. And the world, truly, needs each of us to be shining as bright as we can. I have learned SO MUCH about business in these 3 years! I’ve found it to be so character building and deeply empowering, and I cherish passing on the pearls of wisdom I have learned to younger entrepreneurs. The lesson I continue learning is balance, and the art of resting. I am currently building the business of my dreams with my partner, a regenerative landscape business named Remedy Permaculture Design, to be launched in February of 2021! I am blending my two passions of farming and artistry to create beautiful and edible wonderlands that nourish people, pollinators, and urban wildlife. I want the world to see the beauty of a woman on fire with purpose, in hopes that others will see that possibility in themselves, and feel inspired to look within and take that leap!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Love this question! I’m going to write this as if the pandemic has passed, and our city is open and thriving! We’d first spend time in my neighborhood of Capitol Hill, visiting my favorite local hang, The Corner Beet. Later, we’d head over to the Botanical Gardens where I’m a member so I could give a tour of their amazing collection of native plants. After an afternoon pick-me-up at the amazing woman-owned Copper Door coffee shop, we’d head over to City O City for happy hour vegan yumminess! Another day could be spent swimming at Confluence Park, and wandering around beautiful Rino Arts District. The evening would be enjoying wine and an incredible grilled cheese at Bigsby’s Folly. A great afternoon/evening could be spend wandering the vintage shops on Broadway, and going dancing at Vinyl! Lastly, I’d take my bestie to my favorite shops, Apothecary Tinctura and Herbs and Arts.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Hooray for Shoutouts! There are SO MANY brilliant people who have supported me that I am grateful for. I’d love to specifically thank the INCREDIBLE folks at Eclectic Co. in Colorado Springs! I’ve been sparkling there once a month for a couple years now, and it’s been such a joy to see both the business growth and rich friendships made there. The wonderful owner Peri Bolts, and ALL of the incredible artists who vend there that I’ve enjoyed getting to know: Stephanie of Wilder Bag Co., Lloyd of Yes I Wood, Ani of Two Wolves Vintage, Jenny of BonBon Bombardier, Aimee of Lavandula Co, Yvonne of Original Girlfriend, Satomi of Weighstead, Allie of Laurel and Co., Lyra of Silk + Sage, and Victoria of Clayva, and Kelsee of Berry Good Goods, to name a few. Although the biggest shoutout goes to the amazing Christine Borst of Christine Borst Creative, who is a client-turned-amazing friend, big supporter, and who also recommended me for this interview! Christine, you ROCK. Thank you!
