We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Ziemba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business has always been an interest of mine but it wasn’t always in the field of Chiropractic. I have a passion for cooking and I originally wanted to open a restaurant. While in my undergraduate studies, I was a competitive cyclist. My coach and one of my greatest mentors owned his own chiropractic practice. I learned so much from him and I saw the influence he had on each of his patients and the local community. He inspired me to become a Chiropractor, to open my own practice, and to make a positive contribution to my community here in Lakewood. Since then, I have a had several other mentors who were not only incredible chiropractors, but also provided education and resources for the patients they served to promote health outside of the office. I knew that once I had the chance, I would open my own clinic as well. My passion is fueled by my co-owner and fiancée, Christen, who shares my idea of creating an all encompassing health clinic that has outreach to anyone and everyone who is ready to take charge of their own health and advocate for themselves.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The road to where we are at with our business was a long and difficult journey but one that has given us memories for a lifetime. I started my graduate school in the suburbs of Chicago close to family and friends. My time in Chicago was a mixture of agony and bliss as the school challenged us mentally and physically but I met some of greatest friends and little did I know, my future wife. Chiropractic school is a four year program and at the half-way point, I decided to transfer to a school located in St. Louis to set myself up for more clinical rotations that I would not have had in Chicago. It was difficult to leave as I had made friends and it was forcing me to be away from Christen. Through grit and determination we persevered and held each other accountable to make sure that we were still headed in the direction of starting our own practice. My biggest goal in owning my own practice is to create an environment where all patients feel heard and acknowledged about their pain, regardless of the circumstance. The ability to give back and help individuals who have felt dismissed by traditional medical models, especially in regards to musculoskeletal conditions, drove me to become the clinician who I am today. An oversight of the traditional medical model that I encounter frequently is a lack of patient education about their pain. Specifically, patients have ideas that they will need to just deal with pain or should avoid certain activities because they might elicit pain. They feel that they are unable to manage pain on their own. In my office, patients are provided with therapies to treat their joints, muscles, nerves, and tendons all within the context of the individual’s needs. We give everyone an opportunity to speak freely about what brought them in and address any concerns that may be impeding upon their daily life. We understand that everyone’s situation is unique and as a result no two treatments are ever the same. We are able to treat what the body needs that day and provide guided exercise, information, and inspiration to continue to feel better outside the office. Colorado Spine and Strength promotes sustainable health and self efficacy through a medium of gentle, personalized care, education, and movement. We support active local families in their wildest pursuits so that pain and discomfort are never a hindrance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hops and Pie/Berkley Donuts Crush Pizza Briar Common Brewery and Eatery Taking walks around Sloans lake Trying new restaurants at Edgewater Public Market

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My smart and beautiful fiancee, Christen, has always been my number one supporter and without her I know I would not be in the place that I am in today. She makes me want to be a better person each day and never lets me become complacent with where I am. My parents have always been my biggest supporters in my life and always encouraged me to be better and to never give up on my dreams. They continue to support me today and I know I can alway rely on them for whenever I feel like giving up. My best friend Adrian Gutierrez and I have known each other since we were kids. We went to the same college and were roommates throughout graduate school. He is always someone I know I can reach out to for questions and support and I hope I am that person for him.
