We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Joule Fow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha Joule, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Recently I was asked about the biggest sacrifice I’ve had to make to be an entrepreneur. The answer that I gave was simple: “security.” I have had to put my own time, energy, and resources on the line to establish and grow my business. It is a process that has taken years and involved countless trials and errors. Even so, there has never been any doubt in my mind that I would succeed – and this is partially because I have been able to make friends with fear. Starting a business is risky, and being fearful of taking such a big step is rational. But in truth, fear can be a great friend. It can help guide direction during new experiences. It can help you understand and assess threats to your professional wellbeing. And perhaps, it may even be the driving force behind your will to succeed in a highly competitive marketplace.
Reward seldom comes without risk. For me, the rewards of being an entrepreneur, activist, and thought leader are far greater than the risks I took to get here. As a result, I am grateful for the opportunity to have taken professional risks.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In March 2021, two years of hard work on behalf of myself and support staff at Axiom Communications culminated in the release of a full length book and accompanying thought leadership platform with a growing social presence. “Be Decent: Environmental Activism 2.0” is a book about green tech and how all of us can become empowered to make positive change for the planet by engaging in environmental activism 2.0. this project has not only fulfilled my passion for environmental health, safety, and justice , it has also allowed me to build growing influence in the nebulous world of thought leadership. Digital marketing is highly competitive, and I succeed because I never provide advice that I have not personally vetted and tested myself across my own organization and brands. Thanks to “Be Decent,” I have been able to grow my professional reputation, build targeted engagement, and fulfill my passion – all at the same time. At the end of the day, this goes to show that an entrepreneur never needs to compromise their values in order to succeed. Rather, quite the opposite is true: building purpose and passion into your business may prove to be the key to profitability.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver is an amazing place to live because there is truly something for everyone! I love hosting friends and family when they come to the area and showing them around to my favorite places. Whenever I have people in town, we will almost always be sure to catch brunch at the healthy and delicious Corner Beet followed by a pleasant stroll around nearby Cheesman Park. I also always make sure to check out what’s happening at the Denver Botanic Gardens, which has fun and interesting programming all year round. The Sankalpa Collective, my favorite yoga and dance space on South Broadway, often makes it onto the list for relaxing yoga or an extra-fierce dance class (poles included!), and so does Circus Collective – a fun and wild space for learning and practicing trapeze, acro yoga, and other circus skills. Once everyone is ready for some self-care and down time, we’ll make our way to Skinsanity, the city’s best-kept skincare secret, for a few customized treatments that won’t break the bank. Between all of the outdoor and indoor fun, I’d be sure to make time to stop at City-o-City and Watercourse, two of the city’s most stellar plant-based joints, and round out the week with a quiet day at one of Denver’s incredible museums.
All in all, rain or shine, our incredible city always has something fun to do!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the book Be Decent: Environmental Activism 2.0 (http://bedecentbook.com/) and the incredible people in my personal and professional networks who have supported such an incredible project.
