We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Crothers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how does your business help the community?
We believe that all parents should have access to high quality gear for their children and be able to find the products they want at a price they are able to pay. We make the circular economy an easy option for anyone that wants to participate. And who wouldn’t want to participate if it was truly easy!? Selling items you no longer need used to require taking pictures, researching a fair price, messaging with strangers, coordinating a time to meet, hoping the person shows up, and repeating all that for the 10+ items your child just outgrew. We knew there had to be a better way for busy families to keep their good gear going around. On the flip side, finding the quality gear your child needs for each stage of development is time consuming and expensive. By providing safe and easy access to quality, second hand items, ALL families can feel good about extending the life of gear.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Good Buy Gear is the industry leader in the recommerce of baby and kid gear. We take all the friction out of buying and selling second hand gear buy providing a full service, no hassle approach to busy families. On the selling side, parents can sign up to have their items picked up from their porch. We bring all the items to our processing center where our team of gear experts quality checks every item, takes pictures, and suggests a price based on our pricing algorithm. Buyers enjoy convenient online shopping with items shipped directly to their doorstep.

The most important lesson we have learned along the way is stay close to the customer. Listen to the feedback they are providing you, either directly or indirectly. Don’t build something you want or something you think others will want. Validate the need for your product/service with data and feedback and constant testing to ensure what you are putting out there is not just what the customer needs but HAS to have.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A trip to Colorado would not be complete without some fun hikes near Boulder, a late lunch on the lawn at Acreage, dinner at Mercantile, after dinner drink at Terminal Bar, and plenty of time in the Rocky Mountains. It would take me hours to detail a week long trip as there are so many options, which is why I have chosen to live here!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Growing up I played a lot of sports. I always knew that being an athlete provided me with a lot of benefits above and beyond the pure joy of competing. As a parent now, I realize how much of a sacrifice it was for my parents to drive me all over town for practice, games, tryouts, team functions, etc. They gave up their social life to allow me to become a better athlete. Their commitment enabled me to earn a full ride scholarship to a school that I would not have otherwise been able to attend (for financial reasons).
