We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty J Williams – Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty J, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I don’t think I pursued this type of career to be honest I think it just came with me at birth? I have always had a creative mindset even from my days in diapers I would wear my moms accessories or create my own off the wall outfits. My favorite hat as a child was a deflated kick ball that I attached my favorite Scooby-Doo keychain to, I wore that everywhere till it finally “disappeared.” I’ve not had a thought like, “I wonder what they think?” I hope I don’t regarding how I choose to live and create at least!

I have also always been attached to painting and drawing faces and landscapes, I love to oil paint, some pieces have taken me three or more years to finish because they change with the emotions of my life. My attachment to music is crazy sometimes, I came to the conclusion, I love to enjoy music because I’ve tried my hand at many instruments; saxophone, trumpet, singing, piano, guitar, ukulele, midi keyboards/mixing. I’m more into dancing with the music I’ve learned! Which carried into my love for hula hoop dancing!

Thankfully all of my years of painting faces on canvas and color theory paid off! Jaray, my boyfriend, let me know that makeup is a medium and beauty is a multibillion dollar industry…so I thought why not?

Eventually my career evolved into focusing on brow sculpting and skincare with Blissed Out Beauty. I love being able to create with my clients too! If you checkout my IG everyone has a unique brow shape for their unique faces! I even carry my creativity into the facial room, my favorite thing to do is let my client choose the music we listen to. This gives me a chance to connect with them and really get them to Bliss Out with the vibe they want! The best part is my career will only continue to evolve because I can’t stop my creative mind!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Blissed Out Beauty is here for you to Bliss Out. I started Blissed Out Beauty with the intention of providing the best beauty services I could offer to the public, over the years it has transformed into more than that. I want Blissed Out Beauty to be a safe space where you can feel seen and heard while getting your favorite beauty service! I am so excited to be building new relationships while providing beauty services that I love to do! Blissed Out Beauty has been a long time project of mine, I started my llc after becoming a licensed esthetician with the plan to produce natural skincare products. I realized my passion wasn’t in formulating, it was in providing the service and connecting with people. I am still growing as a small business and wouldn’t be where I’m at today without the mentorship of a few close friends and love from my clients.
I have not met anyone who has started a small business say it’s easy, unless they have great resources to start. We all grow differently, I am so lucky to be able to grow with friends in the industry and be mentored by people who have been through similar circumstances. I’ve learned to set boundaries for myself so I don’t get taken advantage of, I have learned to appreciate myself for all that I offer to the world and to appreciate other’s unique offerings to the world. Most importantly I learned not to make assumptions, this has helped so much in my life and business.
I think I want everyone in the world to know they aren’t alone, normal is different for everyone.
Blissed Out Beauty is here for your beauty needs and to be a friend.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am so go with the flow who knows where we’d end up? If I had to plan it out we’d start at Blissed Out Beauty to get our brows right of course, cannot be vibin’ the city with Two Wong Fu thanks for nothing brows. Once that’s taken care of a lovely stroll through Cap Hill would be inevitable, we’d end up at The Denver Art Museum but then I’d be like, “But this exhibit is at MCA Denver…” so we’d have to go see that one too! Then we’d go get hot dogs at Home Depot, lil snacky snack. We’d do some plant shopping. Head back over to Broadway for some rad thrifting! Some favorites: Goldmine Vintage, Regal Vintage, The Ten Penny Store, Scout, Boss Vintage. Then we would obviously get dinner off of Colfax at my favorite vintage diner, Annies. Totally would have to go get some “e-scooters” so for a scoot sesh at Cheeseman Park. We would end the night at Shotgun Willie’s for all the heel clacking we can stand, love to support the girls dancing!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had so much support and mentorship throughout my life! You know that saying, “it takes a village?” Well I know first hand that it does in fact take a village, being Upper Tanana Athabascan from Alaska I learned a lot about community and how when the village comes together we all benefit. Thankfully the support and mentorship during my lifetime has been from strong women around me. My grandma, Shirley, taught me so much about my heritage and who I am and who I can become. My mother, Michelle, always encouraged me to do what is right morally and to not give a hoot what anyone thinks! Thank you both for loving me and teaching me.
Thank you to Kim Keenan, my phenomenal art teacher from high school, I hope you know how much positive influence you had on me. You never stifled my creativity and always encouraged me to keep creating!
Thank you to Peggy Sue Schmoldt, Academy of Cosmetology Arts owner, you taught me so much and you still do everyday we speak. Thank you for being a mentor and reminding myself and 20 years worth of students our worth in this crazy beauty industry! Thank you for allowing me to show that same mentorship as an educator at your school.
Thank you to Jaray Daniel-Banks, my love of seven years, the encouragement and support you have provided me for almost a decade is so appreciated! Olive Juice!
Thank you to Lauren Clouse, LaurenDenverBeauty, for enabling me, supporting me, and being a friend. You are amazing!
Thank you to Hailey McGrath, my bestie, for supporting me. I am so blessed you came into my life!
Thank you to the women and men who choose Blissed Out Beauty for their beauty needs, I hope to always provide a space where you feel comfortable and heard while taking care of yourself.
