We had the good fortune of connecting with Dale Remsberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dale, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The thing about being a climbing guide is that you have to accept that the job is dangerous and that you can’t control it. You have to mitigate it and be honest with yourself and your clients on approaching risk with some acceptance. The term “safe” is used a lot and it an inappropriate term in adventure sports. We can’t keep you safe but we can acknowledge the risks and use our training and tools to reduce the likely hood of an event that has a negative outcome!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been guiding 27 years and travel all over the world with guests. We set goals, train and then execute. My specialty is harder climbing in the rock and ice disciplines but I also ski guide when it is available. My success comes from providing excellent experiences and generally reaching the summit or top of a route.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them up a Flatiron above boulder which is a 1000 foot moderate climb and then we would take in the views at the top. After getting back to the car the best taco joint in the Front Range is Teocolli in Lafayette and they also make a mean Coin Style Marg.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Much of my success has to do with the American Mountain Guides Association and the training and mentorship that was provided to me in the mountain guide training program. Prior to the training and didn’t know what I didn’t know but I was an active learner and owned my outcomes by trying hard and being receptive to feedback and growth. Also a special shout out to Art Mooney, Rob Hess and Martin Volken who were my personal mentors.
