Meet Zach Tutor | Curator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zach Tutor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zach, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
If you believe in something, if you’re passionate about it – I’m not sure this is a question you’d ever face. Within projects or while you’re building something, you will always be faced with obstacles. But if you know what you want and you can see that final product or goal and you believe in it more than anything else, then you’ll never ponder on this question very long. You won’t give up. Canyons on the way to realizing your passion don’t mean that you can’t go forward. You just have to think of a new way to cross them or go around. If you’re facing a dilemma like this, where you’re asking yourself things like “do I give up” don’t look at it as an end all – look at it as a fun diversion on the way to where you’re wanting to get. Everything is an adventure.

But – if you are finding yourself giving up on projects, that’s ok too. It just means you’re not truly passionate about it and you can move on to something you are truly passionate about.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It took 8 or so years of blogging almost every day – grueling, repetitive, unrewarded work before it even slightly started to all make sense and pay off. I always knew it was there and I had to shut down countless doubts and left turns, but I made it. And it’s never stopped being fun and I’ve never looked at curating and discovering art as a job, chore or errand.

Supersonic Art is now one of the most respected and visited art blogs in history. It’s viewed by millions of creatives every month. It’s started the careers and furthered the careers of countless artists over the years. Its given me some of the most rewarding friendships in my life. And there’s so much left to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friend and mentor Ken Hashimoto.

Ken opened Spoke Art in 2010 and gave Supersonic its first exhibition in January of 2011. Since that point in time he’s changed my life and guided me through the art world time and time again. We co-operate two businesses now together, too: The People’s Printshop (http://thepeoplesprintshop.com) and RECESS (http://everybodylovesrecess.com)

I also have to give my fiancé, Katherine, infinite credit and love. She gives me the strength and knowledge to face each and every day with renewed ability and clarity. She colors my world.
