We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffiny Whisenhunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffiny, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been drawn to stained glass. My mom had a small collection of glass she would mess with when I was very young so I’ve always had it in the back of my mind. My mom also named me after stained glass so it kind of felt like it was meant to be. Haha. So, I was working at the Dever Performing Arts Complex and when COVID hit, we had to close. During the off time, I realized that nows the time to finally dive into something that has been grabbing my attention for years. I love glass art. I think it’s so beautiful and I love that I am able to work with my hands. It’s such a labor of love but once you finish the piece, you see how it is so worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a stained glass artist and it has taken so so much time and practice to get where I am. This isn’t the end of the practice either.. I want to continue to grow and get better. It can be hard work for sure. You pretty much are guaranteed to cut yourself almost everytime you mess with the glass and there are lots of steps to go through before you get to the final product. It’s not always easy. This isn’t my full time job so I have had to learn to balance my time. I’ll wake up early before work and go downstairs to my studio to work or stay up late to finish projects. I have an Instagram and I post pictures on Reddit and Pinterest. I think you have to keep putting yourself out there and eventually something sticks and then people start to realize you exist. Haha. There’s definitely lots of competition online so I have to remind myself to not compare myself to others.
I enjoy the hustle. It feels so satisfying when you sell something on Etsy AND you get a review about the item. I love hearing about my art making them happy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m always a fan of 1up on Colfax. I love arcade games so much. There’s also a Japanese arcade in Westminster that is pretty awesome. If there’s a chance to catch a performance at the Arts Complex or a show at Red Rocks, I would push for that. As far drinks, I love Charlie Brown’s Piano Bar. It’s such a fun atmosphere. Oh, and Blue Pan is my favorite pizza. I could eat it all the time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest support comes from my boyfriend, Ben. As soon as he knew I was interested he was there to help me pick out glass, purchase and upgrade the equipment I had, and pretty much give me nonstop motivation and encouragement. I also appreciate all of my friends and family that were so generous and sweet buying the pieces. I’m grateful for all of them.
