We had the good fortune of connecting with hadley evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi hadley, what principle do you value most?
For me; Authenticity is the value or principle that matters to me. You have to be true to yourself number one. When you make art, you should want some part of yourself or experiences to come thru. Something to be proud of not matter what. When you make art just to look cool or just for a ride of a wave at the current moment, its going to look/sound like it. No matter how successful you are. Be authentic and everything else will fall into place. Don’t pretent, it doesn’t look comfortable!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well I make beats as the kids say. I produce and mix, I DJ and water plants. The city knows me as ‘Dealz’ or ‘Dealzy’. Ive been making sexy jazz standards and hazy jams for 15 years from Seattle to Denver to Portland and back. I used to produce for my local rap crew ‘Team Latchkey’ back in the day. Then began producing for pretty much every rap artist in Denver. Then i had a crazy acid trip and figured out music was definitely going to be a part of my life. So thru the good times and bad times, Ive always created something that sounded like music. Ive had every sampler, drum machine. Been in million dollar studios and bedroom recording labs. I figured out that my minimalist approach to create and what comes out of that is what sets me apart. I sample anything and everything, NO RULES is my thought process. You wouldnt know if i made that on a MPC or a phone app. No matter what I end up with, when you hear it, i hope that you hear or learn something about me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ummm this is a funny question. Oh were going to Matchbox for ‘Taking Back Mondays’ .I’d take em to see Wes Watkins and his band at the meadowlark bar on Wednesday night. I might even jump on stage and kick a few baaaars (because I also rap when I want). Then, that same night, hit Wu Tang Wednesday at 715 club with my dude Tito Chingon. Thursday, we’ll hit up Gerards for a quick pool game and a gimlet. Friday, we grub at the capitol grill. Saturday, its studio time and where ever the lil homies are spinning that night! Sunday? if they make it to sunday haha.
