We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliana Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juliana, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My Mom taught me how to crochet the basic stitch and then I started watching YouTube videos for different stitches. I also got some books with crochet ideas, especially Kawaii crocheting, in which you add cute faces to different items. For me, crocheting started as a hobby, making fun items for friends and family. Then I contacted the Windsor Coffee Shop who gave me a shelf for two months and let me put my items in their shop. Since my time in the shop finished, I have continued doing many online orders via my Instagram account.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For my small business, I crochet cute little kawaii foods or animals! What I really like about crocheting is that you can think of a plushie or a stuffed animal and then you can just make it, instead of going to the store. I’ve definitely learned to not procrastinate and not waste any time, but at the same time, not push yourself too much. I’m mostly excited to try new things and make new creations! I hope everyone who buys my creations will know that they were made with love 💕!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend came to visit, I would start the day going to the Windsor Lake Coffee shop! They have fun spots to sit and talk while enjoying their delicious foods, along with ice cream and many desserts and treats. Their ice cream is so good that I have spent some of my crochet earnings back on it. I would also love to take them by Dutch Bros to have one of their smoothies. We would enjoy swimming and hiking at Carter Lake with my family. The next day I would want to pickup a lunch at Cafe Mexicali and head to Horsetooth Reservoir, where we would walk, eat, even swim again, and take in the views. For dinner, we would go to BeauJo’s to enjoy their yummy pizza with honey dipped crust.
At some point during the week we would take a trip up to Estes Park to explore the tourist town and see the elk. Then we would also go hiking and enjoy the beautiful nature of Rocky Mountain National Park. If a friend came to visit in the fall, we would definitely go to some of the pumpkin farms, like The Bartels farm and Hometown Harvest. We would take a drive up into the mountains to go see all the changing leaves and even take a fun train ride on the Leadville train, which is one of my favorite spots. Our town also has so many parks and bike paths that we would definitely take long bike rides on, and stop for a picnic along the way. One of the nights, we would just relax by our backyard fire and stargaze.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my mom for always helping when I’m overwhelmed and teaching me how to crochet in the first place. I would also like to thank the Windsor Coffee Shop for giving me the opportunity to display my items in the shop. My Dad has also been so supportive and has been teaching me how to handle a small business and how to handle money.
