We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Bourgeois and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Much of my life has been marked by taking risks. Originally from Louisiana, I took a ministry job that brought our family to Northwest Montana. While we loved the surrounding beauty, that move proved to be a little extreme for various reasons. We now find ourselves in Colorado Springs and my wife and I have jumped full time into what had only been a part time job for me to this point. As a professional videographer and photographer, building a new business in a new state, I have certainly stepped into new challenges and risks.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never imagined I would create videos or shoot photographs that would help to tell the stories of others in a way that would bring hope to those watching. Over the years I’ve been blessed to capture so many amazing and unique stories of struggle and victory for churches and nonprofit organizations. While there is money to be made in my line of work, the opportunities to tell compelling stories is what has always lit my fire. From telling the story of a friend I lost to cancer to our adoption story, there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing people encouraged to believe for something they thought was impossible through my art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m an outdoor adventure guy so if you’re gonna spend time with me on a trip of my choosing, it would including hiking in a national park like Rocky Mountain National Park or Glacier National Park, atv riding, skiing and eating at Denver Biscuit Company to undo all that calorie loss.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of the books that has marked my work ethic and life pursuits has been H3 Leadership by Brad Lomenick. The personal successes and failures he shares as well as the tweetable encouragements has helped shape who I am. I would also be remiss if I did not give a huge shoutout to my loving and supportive wife, Brooke. She had always encouraged me to take risks, believed in my gifts and talents and given me the safe space to pursue my dreams.
