We had the good fortune of connecting with Karlos Jeri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karlos, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For me its about the stories, it started junior year of college, I had never intended to be a creative or pursue any career of that sort. I was studying abroad in Argentina for a month and a half. I was struggling with health issues, depression and a bad host mother. From day two I was already counting down the days until I left, and was having a miserable time. My escape from everything was, watching these travel videos of these kids in the most incredible places having the best time of their lives, I wanted that. It was at that moment I pulled myself up, dusted myself off and decided to not make this trip one that I hated, but one that I would look back on fondly. I pulled out my Iphone and started filming everything, going on walks getting lost in the city, finding cool places to take photos and videos, and just experiencing everything; then going to coffeeshops until late and editing until they closed.
To this day, whenever I watch that video, I don’t remember any of the bad things, I just get filled with a sense of wonderment, excitement and emotion.
I’m a creative because I love being able to capture, inspire and bring memories to life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m currently about a year and a half into this career; and I’m incredibly proud of the progress I’ve made in that short time, yet never satisfied. It wasn’t easy, from the outside you see better videos getting put out, but no one really saw the countless hours studying, learning, trying, failing and trying again. I can’ t tell you how many times I’ve been chugging Redbulls at 2AM trying to figure out how to make one 3 second effect work.

Over the last year and a half I’ve learned so much, to stay humble, stay motivated, take time for yourself, learn when it’s time to say no, and to love the process.

I started KJ Media with the purpose of bringing memories to life, and have as much fun as possible doing it. I’ve finally started to settle into the sports and outdoors niche. I currently film projects for gyms, skateboarding brands, the Chill Foundation and assorted athletes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m based out of Boston, MA.

If someone is new to Boston I’d start with the touristy spots Faneuil Hall, North End and some good Italian food and pastries. Then end the day in East Boston, home to the BEST views of the Boston skyline. Drinks and food at Mavericks, Cuinards, Quiet Few or Taco Mex.

With more time I’d take them around to other cool parts of town to explore like the South End, Back Bay and Seaport, then head to some of the nearby hikes in New Hampshire for gorgeous views, if the waves are good we’d pop over to one of the many nearby beaches and surf until sunset and end with some CBD Lattes at Summer Session Surf Shop at Rye Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Huge shoutout to – My family for always giving advice and help when needed
– My friends for supporting and hyping me up
– Everyone who inspires me. From random photos I see on Instagram to videographers with huge platforms
– Sam Kolder and Rory Kramer, without their videoes I wouldn’t have had the drive to go and create my own dream. Thank you for inspiring me.
