We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Woodland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
There is risk in almost every activity we do in life. Measuring and taking a calculated risk in business is mandatory in my opinion to make significant strides. You don’t have to know every facet of an endeavor to pursue it. I try to surround myself with the most talented people I can find to create a powerful team that helps limit risk. I always ask myself what is the worst case scenario? If that scenario does not cause hardship to my family or place us in a leveraged position its worth a shot.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We started building homes in Northern Colorado in 2016. During the past 5 years we have engaged in a few other endeavors in search of passive income. It has been far from easy, but I knew there would be many problems to solve. Surrounding yourself with exceptional people helps with that. For example, having our office space at the Orr Land office in Greeley, CO has provided us with great learning opportunities. The brokers there are very knowledgeable and experienced. We constantly evolve and follow paths to new adventures as they present themselves. I have learned to embrace failures as they are what help you sharpen your edge in business. You can’t expect to try something new and be an excellent at it on the first go.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
An Eagles game at the Budweiser event center would be a great time! Downtown Greeley has really made some strides recently in the downtown with some great restaurants and Weld Works Brewery. Maybe take a short trip down I-25 and play some top golf or head to the Greeley Country club if the weather permits.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Sarah is invaluable. I am certain that I would not have be able to do what we have so far without her support. She is my sounding board for business adventures and has probably steered me away from a couple wrecks. She juggles so many things each day between work and family life yet still shares her time to consider future decisions together.
