We had the good fortune of connecting with NiqqO and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NiqqO, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued music because, I believe I have a lot to offer the world through my music. I feel as though I have a billion stories to share, and it is something different, something new. Most of all something Creative.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others, I believe it is my competitive mind set. I want to make music more than I want to breathe. I want to be the absolute best without question. To be honest the thing I am most excited about is the journey an the growth that comes with this type of art. The journey already has been one wild ride, it has taken me a very long long time to get to the level of professionalism that I am at today. It started with me just writing poetry when I was 5 years old. When I turned 7 my poetry moved into rap. As I started following my musical path, I began to practice by writing songs everyday to understand how it all works. At the age Of 12 I wrote my first real song called cold world. I felt like i had finally figured my style out. Then when I had my first chance in a studio around some friends, I failed miserably an said the worse lines anyone could ever say, they all laughed at me and told me rapping was not for me. I almost gave up that day but something in me said keep going, and don’t let that moment define what it is to come. As I started to progress more I began to actually perfect my craft by rapping in many different ways, different flows, and different styles. I started writing multiple songs every single day. I then realize that music is what I wanted to do so I wanted to learn more, and be more. I started studying legends like Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne, Eminem, J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z and many many more. i wanted to know there work ethics, and what made them what they are today. As I progressed I decided to start recording without writing. I began to speak from my soul, not a piece of paper in sight. Now I sit with over 1000 songs and climbing because I record at least 5 songs a day. I perform anywhere an everywhere no matter the size of the crowd. I am putting everything I have into this despite how many people still don’t believe it will work. There is so much more to this story, but the biggest, and major lessons I had to learn is to believe in myself when no one does, Push myself when I don’t think I can go further, and no matter how discouraged I get at times Never and I mean Never give up because at the end of the day I have to make this work for it to actually work. I just want the world to know give me one opportunity and I will not waste it at all. Also to believe in me like I believe in me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots here in Colorado Springs would be first of all the recording studio, that is my home away from home. But Day one I would take my friend to jives coffee shop. It is a very relaxing calming place to be. Day 2 We would go to steel pan, where the food and the people are simply just amazing. Day 3 we would go to bar k to enjoy some nice drinks and conversation. Day 4 would be one of my most favorite places to eat, juicy seafood, I absolutely love seafood. Day 5 we would be headed to Denver for the night life.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to to shout out to my mother Lakeisha Plummer, my brothers DeVonte, Shay, and DeQuan, I would like to shoutout Xasia for believing in me an supporting me, My kids of course. Most of all I want to give a special Shoutout to any and everyone that supports me an what I do, because I know a lot of people do not believe in what I am doing, or the path that I am choosing. Shout to both of my sisters as well.
