We had the good fortune of connecting with Milan Norling and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Milan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When you escape the regiment of a 40 hour work week, you commit to a journey of discovering your own optimal work-life balance. My entire life, I have tended to live outside the bounds of a regular schedule. After I graduated college, I was offered a position that I thought was my dream-job. I dove straight into a 9-5 marketing job and found after one year that I was not happy at all. I took time to truly assess how this career path would affect my mental health and overall happiness and chose to make the leap. I switched to contract work and started pursuing endeavors that I was truly passionate about. This meant that suddenly work was play, and vice-versa. Since then I have learned how to balance a life of work and play that is both lucrative and truly fulfilling. I believe this will be a life-long process of discovery, but each day has become exciting, challenging, and filled with joy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The work that I do spans many realms. I predominately spend my time creating content, working in film, and working as an event-director for a non-profit. I find that I thrive when I have my hands in many types of work. I am passionate about creating beautiful content to encourage others to have life-changing experiences in the outdoors. This manifests in the form of content-creation, influencing, and working in film. In order to create, you must experience, which opens the door to a life filled with fun. This path in unconventional and hasn’t been easy, it requires abandoning fear and putting yourself out there. I have learned that, if you have the chance, it is absolutely worth taking on the challenge of pursuing your passion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, the first day I would begin with an almond milk cappuccino from my favorite coffee shop. Followed by a trip to the mountains to ski and get all tired in the best possible way. Finishing with dinner from a local restaurant and a stop at a brewery. I love to show my friends the greatest spots for local food/drinks, hidden pieces of art in the city, and of course the natural beauty of the area.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My life has been filled with a series of incredible mentors, teachers, and people who’ve inspired me, I would not be where I am without the encouragement of my mom, who has taught me to pursue my dreams, even when they don’t make sense to those around me.
