We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbey Van Horn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abbey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Meyer Skidmore & Company is communication. Our clients consistently comment on our ability to respond quickly and appropriately. We ensure that we are involved in a client’s flooring project from start to finish with excellent communication. What this creates is a high percentage of return clients and referrals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Meyer Skidmore & Company is proud to be part of the Boulder community for over 45 years. We believe that the reason the name stands strong is because of excellent teamwork, precise craftsmanship, and superb communication. Every job is important, from a 100 square foot job to a 50,000 square foot job. Each client represents a piece of this company’s success. Being a woman-owned business in the construction industry can be a challenge, creating healthy relationships with contractors and homeowners is key.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado is home to so many wonderful places, but if I had to pick, it would include dinner at some of my favorite restaurants including ChoLon, Ocean Prime, and La Loma in Denver. The list would include attending a Denver Nuggets game, hikes in our beautiful mountains, or a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success story has not come without authentic relationships along the way. If it were not for the former owner of the company, Bart, and my dad, Ron who have both passed in recent years, I would not be the woman and business owner I am today. True success does not come without excellent mentorship, support, and encouragement from these amazing men that taught me so much through the years both personally and professionally.
