We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Belisle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I got sick. I went to the emergency room because I couldn’t take in a full breath and I thought something was wrong with my lungs. I left with a bottle of pills to help with anxiety. It was a big awakening. I loved being a high school eduator, but it was causing me exhaustion, personal doubt, and dis-ease.

This sense of misalignment had happened before, I call it my quarter life crisis! In 2008 I was living in Jackson, WY with a loud mind and a broken heart I felt lost on what was next for my life. I took some yoga classes and found a glimpse of quiet and self acceptance. I bought a plane ticket to India. I went to yoga school every day all day for several months, and it caused a complete paradigm shift in life. I was immersed in the yogic practices of postures, breath work, chanting, and meditation. My mind went from constant criticism, stress, and anger to a more peaceful and empowered space. My body and confidence were strong and I returned to the states knowing that I wanted to help others find the ease, power, and happiness hidden within.

Initially, I wanted to support young adults. I moved to Denver in 2010, attained a Master in Education in 9 months, and became an art educator. In a flash, I was filling my schedule with meetings, curriculum creating, student council advising, new state standards, peer observations, feedback reviews, art gallery collaborations, professional development, students college visits, school art shows… my mind was loud again. I was anxious and I had forgotten everything that yoga had taught me. I quit.

I didn’t think teaching yoga could be a full time job, but when I stoped listenings to the thoughts of doubt and fear, I knew that sharing yoga was my business!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Yoga is such an unassuming word for its immense depth. Yoga is much more than what the 1 hour flow classes can share.

Yoga is a healing and empowering lifestyle that refines and clarifies our body and mind. Yoga teaches us about the many facets of the mind, how it functions, and how to find freedom from its conditioned patterning so we can pierce through the mind and live from our heart.

Sutra Seekers has created yoga teacher training programs, workshops, and classes to guide you on your journey inward.
We offers introductory and advanced classes inspired by the authentic yogic practices of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga postures, breath work, mantra, and meditation. These spreading intelligence and ease through out the body and mind.

All of our offerings provide a rich education in the roots and eastern philosophies. Our curriculum and manual are inspired by the lens Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, as these sutras offer us a roadmap to acceptance, love, and peace. We teach Ayurveda, subtle body systems, physiology, anatomy, chanting, pranayama, ancient kriyas, mudras, and mantras.

The best things students are saying is that these lessons change their lives and their relationships with the people and world arounf them. Students share that learning these practices and insights bring much more lightness and joy into their lives.

My goal and my business is to connect people with the lightness of their spirit. I believe that everyone deserves and can learn to love and accept themselves. When we do this we are able to love and accept every minute of life!
