We had the good fortune of connecting with Rita-Soledad Fernández Paulino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rita-Soledad, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I remember coming out to my Mexican family at 18 years old and them all being so dismissive. They all told me “No, you’re not a lesbian” and some of them even teased me about it.

I moved forward by compartmentalizing parts of my identity. I would only show up as my whole authentic self around other people who I knew were part of the LGBTQ+ community.

When my eldest child was two years old they no longer wanted to wear “boy clothing.” They wanted long hair and wanted to wear dresses.

The most important thing I’ve done as a parent has been not forcing gender norms onto my children. I have given them the space to explore their identities and have loved them unconditionally.

I am very mindful of not promoting cisheteronormativity with my children so that they understand that world is full of spectrums and though scared brains prefer to see things in binary terms, we are so much more dynamic.

Yet, because of my lived experiences as a Mexican-American Queer person I’m also trying to protect my children from tolerating toxic work environments by increasing our financial security.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Wealth Para Todos is a financial education platform that provides financial coaching services to BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ+ folk who want to retire early. We want the financial security to work because we want to not because we have to. We believe that financial literacy is a social justice issue and yet financial literacy is not enough to ensure every one has an equitable opportunity to become financially independent.

Soledad a Queer Mexican-American and the founder of Wealth Para Todos wants everyone to have the support they need to increase their extra cash-flow, become debt free, build an emergency fund in a high-yield savings account, and to be investing enough to become work optional. She guides her clients to create a financial plan to retire early by making sure they are creating sustainable financial habits that support their wholeness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I don’t live in Colorado, I am not able to answer this question.

However, if my best friend was visiting Los Angeles, I would take them to Echo Park Lake to ride the swans and then Placita Olvera to eat Mexican food for lunch. We would then walk around Silverlake Reservoir or hike up to Debbs Park Pond.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this shout out to every member of the Wealth Para Todos community. Thank you to everyone who chooses to talk dinero conmigo despite it being taboo in our cultura. Thank you to my husbae, children and friends who believed in my mission of making sure more BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ+ folk have a financial plan to retire early. And mil gracias to all the women of color who have paved the way for me to talk dinero. Their decision to talk dinero as finfluencers, podcast hosts, Certified Financial Planners, bloggers, authors, and financial educators have paved the way for me. May we continue to all build wealth juntos!
