We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Speetjens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
As the Program Director for LifeSpark Cancer Resources, a volunteer Reiki Provider at UC Health Memorial, a holistic healer, and an intuitive artist, integrity is everything. I hold myself to the highest standards of compassionate care, and I am a perpetual student. The focus has to be on service through unconditional love, and there is no room for a wounded ego or competition in the work I do. Serving LifeSpark Participants, my clients, and patients in the Outpatient Infusion Center requires a selfless dedication to honoring people on their healing journeys. Every day, my success depends on my confidence and trust, and my ability to help people heal themselves… to see them in their best light and help them tune into it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Medical Reiki is my passion, having seen it’s amazing effects first-hand, and I am honored to serve on the leading edge of bringing holistic healing into the clinical environment. Becoming a Certified Medical Reiki Master as well as a Reiki Master Teacher has taken years of study, practice, and personal growth.

As is the case for the vast majority of people serving in the healing profession, I came to it first as a patient. When a perfect storm of corporate burnout, perfectionism, self-criticism, grief, and physical pain became overwhelming, I went in search of a way to heal the root causes of my anguish and I found Reiki. It has been a springboard to my spiritual evolution and has brought life back to my life.

I accept that I am on a mission to educate, as most people have never heard of Reiki and feel skeptical at first glance. For many people, actually feeling the energetic sensations throughout the body during a session can ignite the question: if this is real, what else is? Americans are typically uncomfortable with subtle results, and tend to want an immediate quick fix. Reiki is bigger than that. Not only does it invite relaxation and promote healing at every level (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, sub-conscious), it empowers you to embrace and become accountable for your energetic and emotional health.

I want the world to know that there is more to healing than just treating the physical symptoms. Our “dis-eases” have emotional and energetic causes, and there is an incredible opportunity available to us to combine allopathic and complementary treatments to affect true healing. The miracles of modern medicine are astounding, and I’m grateful for them and for every nurse and doctor out there. Reiki is a complementary modality that enhances their incredible work, and is not a substitute for medical treatment. Why not use every tool available to help us feel better and live better… to serve our desire to return to a state of authentic wellness?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Personally, I love a wellness weekend! So my ideal itinerary would include hiking around the west side of Colorado Springs, an Art Walk through Manitou/Old Colorado City/Downtown, Reiki/Massage/Sound Healing at the Lotus Center for Wellbeing, vegan avocado tacos from Westside Cantina or tofu spring rolls from Phonomenal, and a sunset beverage at the Garden of the Gods Club Resort.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my Shoutout to everyone who is giving themselves permission to feel better and to explore alternative healing modalities. To those of us who are striving every day to become the healthiest and most authentic versions of ourselves, choosing love over fear, releasing wounds and integrating the wisdom gained from them, and exploring tools to empower our journeys. Specifically, I want to honor Sandy Priester, the founder and CEO of LifeSpark Cancer Resources (www.LifeSparkNow.org) for creating an incredible non-profit organization that has served nearly 5,000 people with a cancer diagnosis through free Reiki and Healing Touch therapies. Her immaculate integrity and focus on service and healing is an inspiration.
