We asked some of our favorite folks what makes them happy and why?

Katie Cote | Artist

I have been drawn to creativity since I was a child. It was something that always made me happy. This is still true for me today as an adult. I have worked as a floral designer and as a chocolate maker and decorator for a number of years, each having their unique formulas and processes. While working as a floral designer, there was always that moment when you show a client/customer their finished bouquets/arrangements, and they gasp and have a emotional reaction. The thought that something I created can cause this kind of experience for someone, gave me immense joy and happiness each and every time. And with chocolate, when people would taste high end chocolate made intentionally, the emotional experience they would have would bring about a similar experience for me and it honestly never got old. Living my best life everyday makes me happy. We have the power to choose what we do as individuals. It’s our own responsibility to make sure we are happy, nobody else’s. “Everyday is a vacation when you love your occupation.” – Dirty Heads My passion in life is not only creating art but making each and everyone of my clients feel like a masterpiece themselves. There are a lot of things that make me happy so I will only include a handful of things otherwise there is too much to unpack. 1. Family and friends – I have a huge support system, which is something that I sometimes take for granted but I am so so incredibly lucky to have the people that I do surrounding me. I enjoy soaking up as much time as possible with everyone of them! I don’t know that I need to elaborate too much more but that is probably the number 1 thing that makes me happy. 2. Adventures – I crave travel, adventures, exploring, and learning. I think I crave this even more than I do cheese haha. Without this being a true need, I do need this in my life. There is something that is so refreshing and so eye opening when I get to do something or see something new. Read more>>

Connection is my absolute number one value. When I take stock of my life — the way I spend my time and energy — it is clear that connecting with my Self, people I love, and my community is what matters most. What’s the point of it all without feeling connected to the people around me and the Earth that I call home. It really is a practice of remembering this again and again….And being so gentle with my self when I get caught up in the rat race and forgetting to slow down to simply connect to whatever is here now. Butter coffee every morning, too. Read more>>
