The lack of sustainable attainability. I compost my stems and source from as many Colorado resources as I can. Many people just want what they want without thinking of the carbon footprint of the flower. I remember being shocked at the amount of waste there was when I first started in this industry. The plastic wrapping on each flower bunch, cut stems and leaves, and then the fact that if the flowers don’t sell they get trashed. This even happens to the wholesalers. I think in order to create more sustainability, it’s important to educate customers. You may want a specific flower that’s out of season and it came from Ecuador. I would say quality control is probably the biggest unknown for outsiders. Up until recently, testing wasn’t required for potency, contaminants, etc. for hemp products. People were not far off when they compared CBD to snake oil in a lot of cases – not at The Holding Company. My partner and I work with a farm outside of Boulder that grows USDA certified, pesticide-free Colorado grown industrial hemp, and is extracted using a patented chemical free extraction process that produces the cleanest and most effective CBD and CBG products on the market.
