We’ve been fortunate to connect with so many brilliant, thoughtful entrepreneurs and creatives and we regularly ask them about the most important lessons they’ve learned over the course of their careers. We’ve shared some highlights below.
So far, the most important lesson I’ve learned is to trust in myself as an artist. Trust is something that can be difficult to cultivate when you’re working in such an uncertain field, but it is so fundamental. Hands down, the biggest lesson I’ve learned from being a business owner, is you have to embrace your lowest lows and know that if you can make it through, there are almost always other opportunities waiting on the other side. The first year I was in business and would lose a client, I would immediately go into panic mode. I would say “yes” to almost anything that came along, regardless if it was a good fit, just for the money. The most important lesson my business has taught me is to not judge anyone’s situation and to just love one another. We don’t know what others are going through. We all have our own struggles and we all deal with them however we are able and to the best to our ability. When a compassionate greeting in a yard is able to brighten someone’s day…it makes our day. Small businesses are always glorified in the media! I have had to learn and understand that this small biz thing is not always rainbows and butterflies.
