We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam & Matt Schroeder Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam & Matt, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Life-long creatives and performing artists for our entire lives, we pivoted to the world of design almost accidentally when we moved to Denver in 2020. The pandemic brought us West from New York City, and within 48 hours (literally!), we transformed a blank-slate two-bedroom apartment into a contemporary, vintage-inspired loft. We showed the results to a friend in real estate, and he asked us, amazed, “Have you ever thought about home staging?” In that moment, Schross Haus was born! Over the past several years, we have built our business bit by bit, keeping an eclectic approach and an eye for spontaneity at the forefront of our minds.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Schross Haus, we believe that every home has the right to be beautiful. Whether you are moving into your dream home and need a professional eye to bring it to life, or you’re selling your home and need an expert to stage it for a top-dollar sale, we take great pride in helping each of our clients reach their goals (and have a ton of fun along the way!).

Time and time again, we’ve learned that good design is about storytelling. What is the story that you want your guests to know the moment they walk through your doors? What are you trying to communicate to the world through the choices you make in your home? These are the questions that excite us the most. Our greatest challenge as a business has actually become our greatest strength: learning to work together as a genuine team. As business partners and as a married couple (oy veh!), we see an awful lot of one-another. Learning to appreciate each other’s strengths and step up in moments of difficulty has been a truly rewarding journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are proud residents of East Colfax, one of the most-diverse neighborhoods in Denver. As such, we are lucky to have incredible access to some of the best cultural offerings in Colorado. We LOVE Golden Saigon in Aurora: their curry is a life-changing dish! Walking distance from us is the Aurora Arts District, which has incredible murals and our favorite brewery, Lady Justice. We go out of our way to support fellow queer-owned businesses, and Lady Justice is a fabulous one! Also in the Arts District are Baba & Pop’s Pierogi and Bahn & Butter: the best Polish & Vietnamese food in the area, respectively! Sky Bar at Stanley Marketplace is a fantastic addition to our little neck of the woods with a fabulous view. Our favorite local hike is Mount Morrison, which is both challenging and satisfying in terms of payoff. Lastly, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention two iconic cultural institutions of which we have been members, the Denver Art Museum and the Denver Botanic Gardens. We love the Mile-High City and feel so lucky to be part of the community here!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We were so lucky to have the support of Matt’s incredibly generous Aunt Marty of Metamorphosis Designs in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She carried the cost of our first two houses’ worth of furniture and soft goods at zero-interest until we had the necessary income to pay her back for the goods. In this way, we had the immense privilege of starting a business without the burden of debt service payments. We also want to extend a massive thanks to all of our clients, especially the folks at 1858 Real Estate, Coldwell Banker, and the Art of Home Team at ExP!
