We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Vibe Gunton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
God whispered the name of my company, Recovered On Purpose to me when I was at a business conference. I did not know exactly what it would be yet… then I published my book From Chains To Saved: One Man’s Journey Through The Spiritual Realm Of Addiction 5 weeks later under the publishing name Recovered On Purpose. After I began receiving messages, emails, and even people coming up to me in person about how my story had changed their life, I began realizing the power of a recovery story. I have never wanted this to be about my story, because my story will fade and is only one story. If 30,000 of us in recovery began sharing our stories the way I do now, we would be able to stomp Addiction off the planet together. So birthed the mission of training addicts in recovery to share the purpose of helping others through our stories.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company is called Recovered On Purpose…
Less than 5 years ago, I was homeless, 86’d from a homeless shelter (so I was SUPER homeless) and addicted to IV drugs, unable to stop.
I was saved dramatically by Jesus and have not used drugs or alcohol since November 6, 2017.
On November 6, 2019, I published my autobiography From Chains To Saved: One Man’s Journey Through The Spiritual Realm Of Addiction and it became a #1 bestseller. People began reaching out to me that read my story or heard my story on podcasts I was a guest on thanking me for telling it, and many times telling me my story started them on their own recovery journey or their own walk with Christ.
I began training/coaching addicts/alcoholics in recovery how to write and publish books because I now knew, and believed with everything in me, that the addict-who-has-recovered’s story is the greatest and most powerful weapon the planet has against the epidemic of addiction.
The mission of Recovered On Purpose is to raise an army of addicts in recovery to share their stories powerfully and publicly so every addict suffering will find a message of hope and recovery.
Then, when this army is polished, practiced, and ready, they will be trained to speak with a new prevention program in the school system.
Recovery Speaker launched in May: Share Your Story Powerfully is a digital course set to launch in March of 2022 and is the first of its kind. . . ever.
Recovered On Purpose is ready to turn the tide of addiction and is set with the vision and partnerships to change addiction, recovery, and prevention as we now know it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
They would have to go to Boulder on Table Mesa and do the hike to the top. I have done that hike countless times and it never gets old. If they wanted to do a full day trip, there are 14ers that are the experience of a lifetime for people not from Colorado.
There is a really cool sober bar by Jefferson Park that serves mocktails and snacks and has nightly entertainment, and my favorite restaurant they have to check out is Sam’s #3 downtown!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jesus Christ and my friends Brendan H. and Chris R. who helped me find Him in my darkest hours.
