Meet Adrienne Curry | CEO/Operator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Curry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, how do you think about risk?
I think about risk being more so as having faith.
Hebrews 11:1 says “ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Before starting my Hair braiding business called Hair We Go AC, I was working in a corporate position for almost 10 years. Clientele was steadily increasing and my desire to stay at the job was decreasing. I was four months shy of my 10 year anniversary when I took a leap of faith and trusted what God told me. He said, He will take care of me. I remember the Lord told me this two previous times, but I was reluctant to make the move even though my clientele was growing. Then one day I heard it clear as day and I knew in my spirit it was time to resign, so I did! The company did not want me to resign. They told me they will hold onto my resignation letter for 2 week, but I told them three days after I submitted my letter to please submit it to HR. I am certain it’s time for me to move in a new direction. The Lord continues to be a promise keeper to this day! I’ve been operating full time since 2016, using my gift of hair braiding and creativity to bless the lives others.
I’ve never been shy about being a Christian and my clients appreciate this core value of mine. My leap of faith inspired not only some of my friends to become entrepreneurs, but it also empowered my daughter to start her hair braiding company full time. At the age of 21, she has been an entrepreneur now for 4 years.
I would not be this far without faith and I know God has much more in store for me. I am truly blessed!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As we all know, it’s hard staying the course as an entrepreneur. They say if you get past five years, it’s a blessing. I’m going on my 9th year this September!
I currently lease a double salon suite which accommodates both my daughter and I! Although we work independently under one roof, it is such a blessing to watch her grow and shine in the same industry. It makes my heart smile to look over and she her flowing in her gift and carving her own lane.
Now I would like to give a little back story of how it all started.
I am the sole owner and operator of Hair We Go LLC and it’s been this way since the beginning! I like having one on one session with my clients. It feels more personable that way. Like many braiders, I started off braiding my own hair and family, which soon caught the attention of my friends. And then I began braiding their hair after school when I was in high school. In my twenties, I toggled between being a traveling braider and braiding from home. I did all this while still working a full-time job up until July 2016. Braiding was always a side hustle. I never thought it could be a full-time career, but it did become my sole income. I made hair braiding my officially my career September 5, 2016!
I used a big portion on my 401(k) from my previous job to help buy the supplies and salon equipment that I needed to really be efficient with my work and to have a professional setting even though I was in my home. Having a clean and professional environment was and still is very important to me. So this start up income made it somewhat easy or less stressful for me to transition into doing hair full-time.
In my early 30s, I stop being a traveling braider and I solely braided from home up until 2019. By God‘s grace, my clientele steadily grew each year and I was able to get my first studio suite.
Getting to this point in my career was so exciting.
Then Covid hit……
But again, God carried me through! Although I could not operate at full capacity, I came up with an idea to continue selling my handmade hair products that I started making back in 2017 and I created and sold printed shirts that said “ IJS ( I’m just saying) … My Braider’s Soooo Essential”
These creative efforts really helped bring in income during Covid. My clients are the Best Supporters!!!
One difficult part of my entrepreneur journey was learning the administrative side. It’s all glitts and glamour upfront. It’s easy doing hair and flowing in my natural gift , but the hard part was learning the book keeping, the accounting and marketing, staying organized, editing media content, and being disciplined in keeping business expenses separate from personal expenses.
I was able to navigate these challenges by asking some of my entrepreneur peers, and asking referred accountants booking keeping and tax questions. I also utilized resources on YouTube regarding any subjects I needed help with.
These resources continue to help me develop discipline and motivate me to run my business efficiently and effectively. And now I have information to share with not only my daughter, but with other new entrepreneurs.
The lesson that I learned along my journey is, what God has for you is for you! Revelation 3:8 says “ I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it.” Even when I tried to detour from this path God used my daughter to help lead me back to where I’m meant to be. Braiding hair genuinely makes me happy. It is my passion. I am still in love with this craft!
Hair We Go AC is more than just doing hair and Adrienne Curry behind the chair. I am still writing my story. I am still evolving.
I want to get back to the basics of why I started Hair We Go AC, which was to not only help build the confidence of each person who graces my chair , but to share the love Christ by a gentle message, an encouraging word, prayer or simply a hug. I want them to know beauty means nothing on the outside, but it’s the light within that will shine brighter!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t have much of an answer for this question. I am very much so a homebody. I would have to rely on someone else to help me create an itinerary because I would be of no help. lol

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As cliché, as this may seem, this is the honest truth. I give all glory and praises to God for giving me this gift and the mind to stay true to my confidence in Him.
God brought me back to this path even when I tried to stray briefly in 2023,
Again, He reconfirmed this is what I’m supposed to be doing and there’s more to it than just doing hair. There is purpose and an assignment in this journey.
I wish I could say I had a mentor or was inspired by someone, but I am the first entrepreneur in my family.
