We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Kerr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I don’t believe in waiting for the weekends to enjoy my life! As best as I can, I try to engage in both work and things that make me happy every day, so that my life feels balanced and fulfilling. I’m very lucky that my work as a storytelling photographer is so gratifying though, because I find pleasure in getting to be creative and connect deeply with clients every day. If I have to work late at night or on the weekends, it really doesn’t bother me, because I’m doing what I love! Exploring a new coffee shop or having a great playlist on doesn’t hurt either!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My photography centers around storytelling. I work with families, couples, businesses, individuals to tell the most important parts of their story. Whether that’s during a milestone like an engagement or pregnancy announcement, capturing daily life moments that may seem small but mean the most, or a new product launch that stemmed from months of developing a new idea — I’m there to capture it. It can be easy to let these moments go by, but they’re worth celebrating, YOU are worth celebrating! And through photography, we won’t just get photos smiling for the camera, we will get real moments and memories that you’ll cherish forever.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver has so much to offer — where should I even begin?! Let’s start with a casual lunch at Edgewater Public Market. It’s a perfect pick me up after your travel, with food, drinks and stores to browse through. At night we can choose from the endless restaurant and bar options, some of my favorite breweries are along Sloan’s Lake, like Odell’s, some of my favorite restaurants are in the West Highlands, like Trattoria Stella, and I love City Park for at night, Bar Max always has creative, delicious cocktails and a good vibe. Of course we’ll head west to hike in Golden or even head up to Boulder for a hike and walk around Pearl Street. For a chill night we can enjoy the Alamo Movie Theater or find a nice outdoor spot in Old Town Arvada. On a rainy day we can walk around the Denver Art Museum, and on a sunny day we can enjoy the Denver Botanical Gardens. And last but not least I would have to take you to a concert venue like Globe Hall, Red Rocks, Fiddler’s Green or the Oriental for some live music!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Undoubtedly, I couldn’t have pursued art or started my own business without the support of my family. Our community is so important in supporting our success, and my family members were my first test subjects, the first to ever see my photos and encourage me to share them, the first to believe in my ability to succeed. They’ve answered my worried late night calls, helped me make decisions when I was stuck and encouraged me to keep going even when the going gets tough. There is no world in which I could have done any of this by myself, and I wouldn’t want to! I am so grateful for them.
