We had the good fortune of connecting with Alessia Tenebruso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alessia, how do you think about risk?
I believe taking risks leads to living a full life. If I had never taken the risk to begin solo traveling, even though I was scared to do anything alone, I would have never become the woman I am today. I’m so thankful I took the risk to begin solo traveling because even though it felt terrifying at the time, it taught me that I could do hard things. My solo travel journey led me to create my business, One Girl Travel. My business focuses on helping women conquer their fears and going after their desires, especially women who want to travel the world independently.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One Girl Travel is a solo travel-focused life coaching business where I help encourage and support women on their solo travel journies. I combined the two most significant factors in changing my life, life coaching and solo travel. I started my own business in 2020 to help women benefit from living a life of independence and excitement.
I began solo traveling in 2012 to rediscover myself after years of being in a bad relationship. I felt broken and no longer knew who I was, so I decided to do something entirely out of my comfort zone and booked my first solo trip. Around the same time, I found my mentor, Tonya Leigh, working with her for the past nine years. During a trip to Paris in 2019 with my mentor, I had an epiphany of what I was meant to do: help coach women to solo travel. Starting a travel-focused business during the beginning of a global pandemic might have sounded crazy to some people, but it was the perfect time for me to focus on making my dreams a reality. In 2021 I became a Martha Beck Certified Life Coach and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Entrepreneurship.
The goal of One Girl Travel is to help women give themselves the permission to travel the world and live life on their terms. Too often, women wait around for someone to join them or “the right time.” With One Girl Travel, I am helping them realize that right now is the right time to start living their dreams, and they are capable of making their dreams come true on their own.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The summer is when Long Island, NY, comes alive. I would start the week with a trip to Long Beach for a surf lesson with Skudin Surf. After we rode some waves, we would head over to Marvel for some local ice cream. We would catch a concert at Northwell Health Jones Beach theatre because it is a beautiful open theater located on the beach. Long Island is full of unique places to eat, but of course, New York is known for their pizza and bagels, which you can’t miss. Moving toward the east end, I would include an itinerary to the Long Island vineyards, where you can sample delicious wines and LIV vodka and breweries. While there, we would visit the lavender fields, sunflower fields, and local farms. Further east in the Hamptons, you can see the most incredible homes and do some luxury shopping. Finally, my favorite place, Montauk, is at the end of Long Island. Montauk was once a small fishing village but has become more of a low-key version of the Hamptons. There are many incredible restaurants such as Harvest on Ft. Pond, Hooked, Muse at The End, Duryea’s Lobster Deck & Seafood,668 The Gigshack, Sel Rrose, and more. While in Montauk, I’d recommend staying at Born Free Suites and spending lots of time at the beach and exploring the town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my mentor, Tonya Leigh Rising. I began working with Tonya around the time that I began solo traveling. The knowledge and guidance I received from Tonya significantly helped me realize that I was capable of anything I desired to do, and the risk would always be worth the reward. My life has completely changed between solo traveling and working with Tonya, and I am so grateful to her.
