We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex-Anne Aubé-Kubel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex-Anne, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I’ve been a figure skater pretty much all my life, my artistic side is pretty developed. Also, I have a deficit of attention and I read somewhere that people with this neurological problem are most likely to be creative people. I always try to use my full potential of creativity, because it’s my strenght and without it, I really think life would be boring.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s never easy ! First of all, to have a carrer as a professional figure skater, especially in Quebec it’s pretty much impossible, because there are no shows. As for myself, I had to go to Asia when I was 19 to be able to make it as a living. The crew ships were my only options for a long time. Maybe that’s why I would love to give this opportunity to other performers/ Skaters and produce my own show someday. I am still so passionate about this sport, but like I said it’s very hard to make it a living, there are no opportunities in my country.

As of my social media platform, I am lucky to have an agency that works with me to find some collaborations that goes with my “interests”. In that way, I can create some content and use my creativity. Again, it can be hard to be on my phone all the time and I can’t protect myself completely from comparing myself to other bigger influencers. It can be tricky if you take it too seriously. Happiness is found when you stop comparing yourself to other people. But with this job it’s a little bit harder.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live near a mountain and a vineyard, so I would probably suggest to go hike and than try some new wine samples. The town of Montreal is also a must if you come to Quebec. This town is full of subversive artists. Good food, good music and a great nightlife.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So, I think pretty much of my success comes from the fact that I was an athlete. I learned all the most important things you can’t learn at school with my discipline regarding my sport as a figure skater.

My carrer as a competitor gave me the opportunity to carry on as a professional figure skater and to perform all around the world during 5 years onboard some of the biggest crews ships in the world with Royal Carribean. Meeting people and different artists from all over the world gave me a lot of knowledge and opportunities.

When I decided that I wanted more life experiences, I went to audition for a tv reality show where I am from in Quebec; the most popular tv show of my province, and I made it all the way to the finals. The name of the tv show is called ” Occupation Double” and it was in South Africa. After that tv show, I started to have a lot of followers and made my social media a platform where I can create some content and make this as a living. I am currently studying in Montreal in a school of radio and tv, to improve my communication skills and to learn more about the traditional media. One day, I would love to produce my own figure skating show, or to be an animator and have my own tv show.
