We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When people go to a bar, it’s the same thing every time: a college kid shaking meh cocktails with little-to-no enthusiasm for what they do. Maybe they’ll butter you up to get a bigger tip, but bartending has become a joyless craft for the 99% of those who do it. The Cocktail Bard is not only supposed to be a chique new take on the classic cocktail/speakeasy style, but it’s also a guarantee that every shake and stir is done with the passion of someone who takes his craft seriously.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After an evening of slinging drinks, I was cleaning up the bar and talking with a guest about a concert I would be bartending for later that month. They asked me if I had a business and when I said no, he started going on about how easy it was. An Old Fashion and a burger from In-N-Out later, I had acquired my first L.L.C and was spending hours designing business cards. Now I’m juggling all the crazy aspects of business ownership while also working two jobs, and it’s been a blast. I feel like this is what having a kid in your 20’s is like: It was really easy to start when you’ve had a few drinks, it ended up being much harder than I thought it’d be, and I hope I don’t mess it up too bad. But the hardest parts are the best ones, and I just can’t wait to see what it grows up to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denver is the city I was born and it’s tough to narrow down the best parts. Maybe we could start with window shopping in Washington Park, strolling down Gaylord, and visiting Bottle Shop No.33 where we inevitably pick up a bottle of wine to enjoy in the sunshine. Then we’d hop on the light rail to go barhopping through the city’s great cocktail bars: Retrograde, Run for the Roses, then the sultry Seven Grand for whiskey and pool. This time of year, we could people-watch and check out the best cosplays at Denver Comic Con and afterward pick up some sushi and sake at Sushi Sasa where I began my bartending journey. Denver to me is becoming a New New York, you can’t possibly enjoy it in just one week.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The fine staff at Provision have not only given me a killer bar to continue my elevated bartending journey, but several great memories along the way. Special shoutout to Wes David and Tyler Clanton, two of the better bartenders I’ve ever known. To my parents who have supported my entrepreneurial endeavors, and the regulars I have enjoyed serving along the way.
