Meet Alexis Treton | Wine bar owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Treton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is a major key factor in our business adventure. we had to move from France which means quitting our jobs, bringing our 2 kids with us and make sure they will adapt to this new life & culture, leaving our family and friends and doing our best to keep our business healthy in order to stay in the US.
It really is a daily challenge and each day is a new step into the unknown. Basically, we have to deal with all the matters coming from managing a business background and all immigrant duties. In a few words, risk taking is currently our fuel.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
La Bouche is a French-American wine bar only focused on French & American wines.
Opening a business wine-driven in Denver is really challenging as we are in the middle of a beer & whisky city. But we believe since the fits day thta there’s a place for wine and wine lovers too. I’m pretty inspired by my own instinct and I try not to do too much calculation when its time to make a decision. Or I would never try anything new.
When we came the first time to visit Denver as a family we felt that we could try to open our business here and work with something we had a strong feeling for. Wine was that.
La Bouche is all about eating, drinking, chatting and sharing experiences. We have a great clientele and I’m so happy people come to enjoy a moment together. We have no TV at the bar and people let their phones aside when they stay at our place. That’s what we wanted when we opened the bar. So of course, as Denver is also a city of sport, it has an impact sometimes on our flow but we stay stuck to our basic concept: a wine bar is a place where people come to socialize around a glass of wine and with food made out of highly selected fresh products.
It’s still a daily challenge meaning that everyday I learn something. Even more with the culture difference that makes you understand that what anything you thought clever is just meaningless here. Patience and taking steps back are keys of success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Actually, I think my favorite spots are outside Denver.
Colorado is great state if you like nature. So to get a deep breath of nice fresh air, just visit the mountains and spots around Denver: Golden, Evergreen, Frisco, Breckenridge, Red Rocks, Glenwood Springs…. I haven’t visited enough to quote a lot and there are so many locations that need to be seen here!
Stay focused on small businesses, Denver has a lot of dedicated people to their passion: Reunion Bakery, le Clare’s, Denver Macarons, Potager.
And last but not least, a Nuggets game if you like basketball. Let’s go Nuiggets!!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, my kids and my parents first of all.
And all the people from the French community or further who helped us in a way or another to move forward. They know who they are!
