We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexsandra Dattilo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexsandra, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to have patience and trust in the process of paintings. Some things will work and some things will not work and that’s okay because now I know and have learned something along the way to the finish point

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Here at Open Idea’s Acrylic the main focus of artwork is Pet portraits, but I can also create anything else as long as I have a reference. Each piece is uniquely it’s own and one of a kind with every brush stroke. It has its easy days and has its challenging days as I am 100% self taught, there has been no schooling in art work for me so with each painting there is recognition of improvement!
If you recieve a painting from me, when I work on the piece I pour my heart and soul into it knowing no matter what it will be appreciated and held onto for years to come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love places where knowledge can be learned and enjoyed! Honestly I would go to The Nature and Science Museum in Downtown Denver for a day as well as eat in the cafeteria there as the food is decently good and spend as much times in the exhibits. Then for another day go for a browse in Golden Colorado as there are so many places to see, eat, drink and enjoy, as well as being out in the sun and fresh air. Another good place to enjoy is Olde Town Arvada as it is like Golden where shops are lined along the street, good places to eat and drink as well as being in fresh air.
I’m really not big on money having to be spent to enjoy a day out so anywhere that doesn’t require an entrance fee is always fun to me.
What I really enjoy if there is places to go that aren’t to crowded is anywhere to cast a line and maybe catch some fish. There’s something serene and otherworldly when casting a line into water. The entire loud world dissipates and dissolves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The building and creation of Open Idea’s Acrylic has been helped by so many people. I’d love to thank my Fiancé Jordan Curtis for bringing me home out of retail to start this dream. If it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t be where I am now. I’d also like to thank my mentor Heath Soderstrom for teaching me the ways of networking and understanding how to handle and mold a personal business.
Thank you to my friends and family for cheering me on through the creation of my little business in a big world!
Also a huge shout out to all of the people who have, are and will support my business in either getting a pet portrait or some other type of artwork!
