We had the good fortune of connecting with Alia Delia Eichinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alia Delia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
“Risk” often has inherently negative connotations, which may bias you against taking smart risks. But in my case and my Sports risk-taking can be a good thing. For me, it is important to consciously remember that risk-taking may lead to positive outcomes. The brain is wired for error-based learning, so every time I’m trying a new trick I’m experimenting with it, not necessarily thinking of a positive outcome. Every time you fail you learn from it. Risk assessment in itself is a dangerous double-edged sword. The biggest success can be an outcome of failure. I have had several serious injuries that resulted in surgery and I learned that going through a whole rehab process most of the time brings new motivation and experience with it. I think every athlete grows by going through failure and taking risks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting where I am today took a lot of commitment with it. I wanted to follow that passion already at a very young age which made me move out to a sporting boarding school when I was thirteen years old and I spent 5 years there until I finished my degree. After that, I moved to Munich to be able to train with the German National Team as much as possible. I found a perfect workplace that allows me to combine my Sport and work in the best way possible. It is very important to me to have a good Work-Life Balance and working as a Police officer at the Federal Police gives me the best opportunity to be a competitive skier because of a special Sportprogramm that takes me off work throughout the season. I’m very proud to have already achieved one of my biggest Goals: The 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. I learned a lot on my way there and got very independent at a young age which definitely brought some challenges with it. I’m very proud of the person I become today and would do exactly the same thing again.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m currently living in the probably biggest Winter Sports City in Europe, Innsbruck. I would love to take my friend to ski all the amazing Ski Resorts and Glaciers around the City. The Old Town of Innsbruck is very pretty and definitely an attraction itself. The food out there is amazing because the residents of Innsbruck are from all around the globe and start making their Businesses in Tourism and gastronomy. The best spot to hang out in Summer and Winter is Nordkette the local Mountain that comes with an amazing view all over the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am with my sport if it wasn’t for the support from my parents and sponsors. My dad introduced me to the sport when I was young and we rode in the park together. He showed me how much fun I could have through skiing and I still love shredding with him to this day.
