Meet Alison Zimmerman | Director of Possibility @ WiseAspirations Event Design

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Zimmerman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison, what do you attribute your success to?
WiseAspirations is a product of learning and creating a legacy of love. I know the vast majority of humans are in collaboration in releasing what no longer serves us, and creating space for something new. I am inspired by the truth that creative entrepreneurs bring to light in abstract ways. I am successful because of my committed practice to tuning into my inner listening and following my intuition.
Through a disciplined practice of yoga, I’ve discovered infinite timelines within myself. Within these timelines are seeds of inspiration that were planted by the people who raised me. My father taught me the “back door approach”, how to think out of the box, to be resourceful, and to fearlessly ask for what I want. He would always say, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, and this really stuck with me. In my mother, I learned creativity, organization and planning, and a laser attention to detail. Honoring and implementing these qualities from the depth of my legacy is a daily practice of mine. This truly makes me the unique individual and event planner that I am.
May 2020, my father was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer. He has a creative eye for collecting materials that most people toss, and sees the story that lives inside each piece of metal, wood, and glass. I am committed to carrying on his legacy by re-creating pieces of art with the materials he has collected over the years. So far we have built frames for my photography, and created props for my wedding design business with repurposed materials. Sharing this sustainable sentiment with my community means the world to me!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I embody my story, I answer the call from higher law and flow in creation of transformative moments in time. WiseAspirations creates containers that inspire expression, expansion, collaboration and healing. My brand, WiseAspirations, has been evolving for over a decade. It encompasses a degree in Tourism & Event Management, professional hospitality experiences working in Alaska and Peru, and ongoing apprenticeship in the events industry.
I am a legacy coach in training, a wedding and event planner, a freelance florist, a connector, a visionary, a loving daughter, a writer, and a yoga teacher. I am a leader, consistently coming back to the practice of presence.
Taking this leap into creative entrepreneurship has been a whirlwind of learning, experiencing, expressing and exploring. Every day, I set myself up for success by opening my heart to the unknown and exercising my willingness to adapt.
I’ve spent lots of time envisioning my personal and professional growth. This year, I discovered that, no matter how clearly I see something down to the finest detail, It’s inevitable that the vision will change in response to the “weather of the seasons”. Being an entrepreneur requires resilience, courage and flexibility.
WiseAspirations is committed to unveiling and accepting the truth. Honoring the darker hues of life, I tell a story of dancing in the darkness and presently living in perseverance of pain. As I dive deeper into self inquiry, I discover the value of my real, raw presence in other people’s lives. I am strong, vulnerable, awake and here to be of service. I am a lighthouse in a world filled with darkness, and this is the foundation of which I am creating from.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve been dropping into Steamboat for 6 years now, and my idea of the best time ever has certainly evolved since my first season in the Boat. When close friends and family come to town, what I want them to experience is the community I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of. I’d take them to the Old Town hot springs, where I got to work in the gardens for 4 years. I’d take them to Out Here Yoga, a space where I have moved through some of my toughest emotions, I’d drive them down the back roads, and tell stories about properties I’ve executed events at. I’d show them the different projects I’ve worked on, and introduce them to all the people along the way.
We’d spend time along the Yampa River, walking, biking and fly fishing. Depending on the season, we would raft down the yampa, and shred the slopes. We’d soak our bones at Strawberry Park for sure, and visit a handful of my favorite restaurants.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
– My intimate partnerships (The people who hold space for me. You know who you are)
– All of my mentors from all seasons of life (from grade school teachers and coaches to professors and wedding colleagues)
– Out Here Yoga & Lightyear Leadership for present day accountability and discipline, thank you to the moon!
