Meet Amanda Albert | Graphic designer and illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Albert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’d been working as a graphic designer at a state university for a few years and during Covid I’d had a lot of time to consider my priorities in life. I wanted a better work/life balance and work that was more fulfilling creatively.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art reflects what inspires me, mid century design and all things cute. I am self taught and it’s been a long journey to get to where I am now. I started teaching myself little by little while working full time. It started w baby steps, a few tutorials in Photoshop, then slowly adding more and more over the years. I still have loads more to learn, it’s a process that’s never really done but I enjoy my craft and improving my skills.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m based in Syracuse, New York. So that might look something like this, breakfast at Glazed & Confused, best donuts in town. Visits to local museums like the MOST, some antiquing at Syracuse Antiques Exchange and Behind the Iron Gates, dinner at Funk and Waffles and take in a gallery opening at Stay Fresh.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I work part time at Stay Fresh Design and I learn so much each day from each person I work alongside. https://stayfresh.design/
