We had the good fortune of connecting with Amity Krause and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amity, how do you think about risk?
Thinking about risk, for me, has always been about balancing intuition with insight. In the real estate world, and certainly in my transition from retail, to realty, to founding True North Transaction Services, risk-taking has been a central theme. It’s not just about taking risks; it’s about making informed decisions where the potential reward outweighs the potential setbacks.
In my career, taking risks has played an instrumental role, especially when I decided to pivot from being a realtor to coaching Transaction Coordinators. This leap was driven by a gap I observed in the market: there was a significant need for specialized training and resources for TCs, yet very few were addressing it head-on. The decision to fill this gap was a risk because it meant venturing into relatively uncharted territory.
However, I approached this challenge with a mindset that I like to call ‘calculated courage.’ It involved deep industry research, leveraging my network for insights, and a bit of trusting my gut. The launch of True North Transaction Services and the TC Exchange podcast were all steps that were fraught with risks but were calculated and, ultimately, incredibly rewarding.
Risk-taking, in my view, is essential for growth and innovation. It’s about seeing beyond the immediate hurdles and envisioning what could be. For True North, it’s led to us creating a community and a suite of resources that empower TCs to navigate the complex real estate industry confidently.
But, it’s also about resilience. Not every risk leads to immediate success, and part of my journey has involved learning from setbacks. These moments have been just as valuable, teaching me the importance of adaptability, perseverance, and the strength of our community.
In essence, risk-taking has shaped my career and True North Transaction Services in profound ways. It’s pushed me beyond my comfort zone, led to remarkable growth, and allowed me to contribute to the real estate industry in a meaningful way.”
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
True North Transaction Services is a beacon for transformation and specialization within the real estate sector, embodying a mission to empower Transaction Coordinators (TCs) with the knowledge, tools, and confidence required to excel in their roles. What truly sets us apart is our dedication to excellence, education, and community support, specifically tailored for TCs at various stages of their careers.
Our Unique Edge:
Our edge lies in our comprehensive approach to support and education. We offer more than training; we provide a nurturing community and a roadmap for success. Through the TC Exchange podcast and our blog, The Compass, we’ve developed a suite of resources aimed at tackling the real-world challenges faced by TCs. This ecosystem encourages continuous learning, professional growth, and development, distinguishing us from generic training programs.
Pride and Excitement:
The community we’ve built fills me with immense pride. Witnessing our TCs flourish, confront challenges, and meet their objectives is incredibly gratifying. The most exciting aspect for me is the broader impact of our work. Every TC we support contributes to more efficient, smoother real estate transactions, enhancing the industry as a whole.
The Journey to Where We Are:
Reaching our current position was challenging. My transition from retail to real estate, followed by a pivot towards supporting TCs, demanded resilience, flexibility, and a continuous learning mindset. Establishing a business in this niche required overcoming financial hurdles, market competition, and building credibility from the ground up.
Engaging with the community, iterating based on feedback, and consistently refining our approach allowed us to overcome these obstacles and thrive.
Lessons Learned:
Building a supportive community around your business is invaluable, especially when navigating difficulties. Resilience has also emerged as a crucial lesson; in entrepreneurship, setbacks are learning opportunities rather than failures.
Our Message to the World:
True North Transaction Services is more than just a business; it’s a movement aimed at not only streamlining the transaction coordination process but also at elevating the stature of TCs within the real estate industry. Our narrative is one of transformation, resilience, and the power of community, highlighting the journey of recognizing and realizing one’s potential against all odds.
We stand as a guide for anyone in the real estate industry seeking to refine their path, enhance their capabilities, and make a significant impact. Our story illustrates the entrepreneurship journey, marked by challenges and victories, and we aim to inspire others to chase their passions with determination and sincerity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the Denver area! If I was planning a week long trip, I would make sure that we hit up all of the great eateries around. I would also make sure that we made time to visit some iconic sites like the Botanical Gardens as well as the Art Museum. A trip here would not be complete without a visit to the Rocky Mountain National Park to see the amazing views and wildlife.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To My Early Mentor: First and foremost, I want to dedicate a special shoutout to Michelle Spalding, who was more than just a mentor; they were a beacon of light at the beginning of my real estate journey. Their wisdom, patience, and encouragement not only shaped my approach to business but also instilled in me the confidence to pursue my vision. Their guidance was instrumental in helping me navigate the transition from retail to real estate, and eventually, to founding True North Transaction Services.
To the Real Estate and Transaction Coordinator Communities:
I am immensely grateful to the vibrant communities of real estate professionals and Transaction Coordinators. Your challenges, stories, and successes have been the bedrock of inspiration for True North. The shared experiences, discussions, and the collective wisdom of this community have not only enriched our resources but have also fostered a sense of belonging and purpose. This shoutout is for every member of these communities who contributes to our ongoing conversation and growth.
To My First Clients and Course Participants:
Your trust and feedback have been invaluable. To those who were the first to listen to the TC Exchange podcast, engage with The Compass blog, and those who have become my clients, your support was the affirmation that we were on the right path. Your constructive feedback has been a gift, allowing us to refine and improve in ways we couldn’t have imagined. This journey is as much yours as it is mine.
To My Family and Friends:
Lastly, but most importantly, my deepest gratitude goes to my family and friends. Your unwavering support, belief, and love have been my foundation through every high and low. Your encouragement has been a constant reminder of why I started this journey and what truly matters.
