We had the good fortune of connecting with Amyr Wynder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amyr, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from East New York, Brooklyn. I was raised here since birth. I would say it was pretty rough growing up in the neighborhood being exposed to so much at a young age. It made me realize from young the type of people I wanted to surround myself with and things I didn’t want to be apart of. I was raised by both parents who enlightened me it’s good to be different and original. I believe it plays a big factor to the type of person that I am now. I rather create my own trend than follow a trend. I don’t let the influences of others stop me from fulfilling my goals or dreams.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would like to consider myself an artist because I love the art of creating. I feel like my style sets me apart with the type of music I make, the way that I dress and even down to the art I project through my drawings. To be honest, I’m nowhere near I’d like to be, but I’m still climbing to reach the top of the pinnacles. Challenges are inevitable, but I’m thankful to find the courage to still push through. I’ve learned that you have to take charge. You have to be accountable. You have to be the brand. There’s only one me and I just want to live up to my fullest potential. I can’t see anyone stopping that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take my best friend down to the city. Lower East Side is always a nice calm vibe for a great time. Plenty of bars and lounges to choose from with great energy flowing. Even the South St. Seaport. There’s always a good time awaiting in NY.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout the people who continue to support me. With my personal life, with my music and anything else I have going on in life. Last, but not least, my precious children. Who motivate me day by day to keep persevering.
