We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasiya Tkachenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anastasiya, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Prior to launching my Copywriting business, I worked in the world of non-profits for nearly 10 years. I started when I was 14, volunteering at various organizations, and then accepted an incredible job while in college at the University of Colorado Denver for the Colorado “I Have A Dream” Foundation. I led various S.T.E.A.M.-focused clubs for the afterschool program at an elementary school in southwest Denver. It was the most incredible, life-changing, and formative years of my life and I’m so grateful to have been surrounded by so many interesting, intelligent, and influential people who not only challenged me but cared for me. Throughout my time there, I slowly understood that the organization’s ability to support the hundreds of students, plus their families and their futures, was dependent on the amount of donations and grants given by interested donors. I realized that although we are an incredible organization that does fantastic work for the school and the community, the only way to get more resources is to, essentially, convince people who know nothing about our organization, the students, or the true benefit of the program, to donate to us rather than, or in addition to, other fantastic organizations. This brought me so much sorrow to know that no matter how much we love this community and want to do great things for them, we can’t give them what they truly deserve. By the time I had to say goodbye to my role with CIHAD, I decided I wanted to pursue a career where I had the power to ignite action so that deserving organizations, businesses, and people could connect to the right audiences and make sure their mission and vision could be seen by the world, and supported. The best way to do that is through the art of words.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What draws me most to this type of work is that it requires me to step away from my computer to reload my imagination. Copywriting, in particular, is a type of writing that combines storytelling and strategy, which is both challenging and interesting and requires me to activate both the left and right sides of my brain. To fuel my creativity and imagination, I must go live outside my work, which is the greatest gift of all. To better my writing and offer unique ideas to my clients on ways for their brand or business to stand out among their competition, I purposely, and naturally, seek out experiences that make me feel alive: concerts, road trips, conversations with strangers, long walks under a starry night, movies, food, museums, the mountains, etc., the things that take me out of my head and into my body and the present moment. The more I absorb, the more I can contribute to my work. At the end of the day, I’m not just writing the words for my clients to sell their products and services. I’m writing to real people who have specific needs, wants, pain points, and desires and are craving a solution, and then use the art of storytelling infused with strategy to take the buyer on a journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado is abundant with interesting and unique things to do and I LOVE spilling all my secret favorites to anyone interested in exploring this beautiful state. Depending on the time of year someone chooses to visit determines some of my recommendations, but overall, this is where I would suggest someone to go.

First of all, they’ve got to spend the day in downtown Denver. I would recommend starting in the Highlands for breakfast at The Bindery. It’s a beautiful breakfast/brunch spot with gorgeous natural light and good food. After that, grab a drink to enjoy while exploring the city at Blue Sparrow Coffee on Platte Street, or if you have a craving for something extra sweet, stop by Little Man Ice Cream for a swirly cup of heaven. After that, enjoy walking around and getting to know downtown.

For lunch, I recommend driving over to Cherry Creek North and enjoying Flower Child. It’s lovely, the food is divine, and the space is just beautiful. After that, take some time to walk around Cherry Creek North. My personal favorites are The Rebel, Avocado Ceasar Salad, and a Chocolate Chip Cashew Cookie. If you’re interested in exploring the local boutiques, Bloom by Anuschka on E 2nd Ave is gorgeous.

After that, I highly recommend exploring the cool neighborhood of Capitol Hill. Have a picnic at Cheeseman Park, explore the Botanic Gardens, step into cafes and shops like Hudson Hill (try the Japanese Style Matcha Latte) and Relic Vintage, rent a bike and explore City Park, play pin-pong at Ace Eat Serve, pick up some favorites from local gourmet grocery stores like Marcyzk Fine Foods, enjoy the sunshine and an iced coffee at Whittier Cafe, and literally so much more in this relatively confined area.

For dinner, the dream would be to drive to Boulder and enjoy dinner at My Neighbor Felix or The Kitchen. And then to finish off the day, stay overnight at the St. Julien Hotel and Spa. The next morning, grab a quick bite and drink at Trident Booksellers and Cafe, explore their fabulous bookstore, and then have brunch at The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse. From there pack your bags and drive to Aspen to spend the next 3-4 days exploring the mountains.

On your way to Aspen, make sure to stop by Vail and Carbondale. Once you get to Aspen, make sure to visit Maroon Bells, Snowmass, and the Hotel Jerome. Make sure to stop by Felix Roasting Co., a cafe next door to Hotel Jerome.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Personally, I would like to give a shoutout to little me. My one true dream as a little girl was to be a writer, of all sorts. I dreamt of living in a large, cosmopolitan city like New York or London (currently in the process of this part of the dream) and being a working writer. Not just writing poems in secret, but writing words that make an impact. I never, ever thought that this childhood dream would come true, simply because while growing up, no one ever told me that being a writer could be a viable, successful career choice. It was a fantasy that had no room in reality. That was until I discovered Copywriting, which combines three of my favorite things in the world: writing, storytelling, and bringing people’s ideas to life for the world to see their brilliance. So, if I never took this leap of faith, I never would be where I am.
