We had the good fortune of connecting with Anette Bowser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anette, how does your business help the community or world.
Ladies of Value, LOVE, prepares young girls to be well round adult women by time they graduate high school. This looks like equipping them with adequate interpersonal communication skills, economics as well as lasting life skills from car mechanics to home care. LOVE also facilitates an annual community service project where the young ladies learn the value of their civic duty and a sense of community. We want our girls to be involved and high functioning society members.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ladies of Value, LOVE, is a curriculum based mentor program for young girls ran as an elective in local schools. Our Mission is to illuminate the value that is hidden within young girls through authentic life skills, one on one mentoring and programs designed to prepare the girls for the real world. The objective is to have well rounded women in education, finances, self presentation and life experiences, in addition to having a genuine love for self. Our target students are young women who are having trouble in school, less than ideal home lives, require more attention, in need of extra love, could use exposure to a healthier social environment or would strongly benefit from a mentor. What makes the business worth everyday of challenge is that one girl who realizes how amazing she is and begins to turn her choices around for the better. I continue to work full time to help fund LOVE as schools aren’t always adequately funded themselves. Having a job is my largest challenge. Without working being a limitation LOVE could run in several schools across the state. I continue to spread the word for awareness and started a direct sales business on the side to help create the capital needed to change the world one young lady at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Any friend of mine is into food. The first thing we’re doing is eating haha. Spot number 1 is Welton Street Cafe, I’ll teeter between a honey hot wing dinner or the turkey burger. We’ll leave full and most likely be back before she leaves. We’ll have to visit Red Rocks, concert or not, Garden of the Gods, I have a thing for places with great views. We’ll spend an evening at Bar Helix for great vibes, cocktails and delicious snacks. I’m an avid reader and love coffee, that means Whittier Cafe is on our tour list as well. I almost forgot, after one of our nature walks we’ll have to stop for a smoothie at Level Up Nutrition.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Leadership is pivotal! I have always been told only follow someone who is also following someone else. Rico Wint, Young Men of Purpose and The Purpose Center, is that leader for me. He runs a mentor program for young men changing lives all over the city. I only hoped LOVE would have a relevant impact. He was the first person I reached out to when I wanted to start LOVE. He had coffee with me, answered my calls, reviewed my plans, let me see his structure etc. Nothing was off limits as I continued to grow and as LOVE progresses he remains in my corner telling me how great the program is and how great I can be as well.
